finding a local physician

Dear Dr. Stoll,

I had posted a message about three weeks ago trying to find a physician in the Greater Chicagoland area that may be a little more receptive to my magnesium deficiency and help diagnosis the cause of my episode of a-fib. You were kind enough to refer me to Mr. Jack Hanks at GLCCM. Unfortunately he is no longer with them. My current physician, a very nice man and a referral from ACAM, does not seem to interested in doing any further intracelluar tests and keeps doing hair analysis. Any thoughts on hair analysis for magnesium testing and any other referral sources and possibly finding a doc who might do intracellular testing and help with SR? Your site has been
so helpful to me I truly appreciate all the info you have provided.

Hi, Anthony.

Thanks for the update. I hope Jack's absence is not a bad sign about the viability of the organization.

Hair analysis is a very poor second to intracellular magnesium measurements. Even the normal ranges are changing almost every year as we learn about the "normal" variability in the population. Many times only a therapeutic trial will make the diagnosis. Even then, though, an accurate intracellular result serves the purpose of a base-line in the individual.

Call Great Smokies Labs at (800) 522-4762 and ask them for physicians in your area who know enough to order intracellular magnesiums and how to interpret them.

Your expereince is a great example of how wide the range of expertise there is even in those who profess to be advanced practitioners. It has always been thus in the middle of a changing paradigm.

Let us know what you learn and how you do.

Walt
