Paul, try food-based magesium from Mega-Foods. The tablets can be taken on an empty stomach without discomfort. You'll get at least 90% UTILIZATION compared with 50% of a chelate. Talk about value! Good luck.

Have you tried Potassium as well? Potassium is great for irregular and accelerated heart rate. It's often used on heart patients in emergency rooms. Problem is, it only comes in 99mg doses, so to see any effect, you need to take a good number of pills. Check it out and see if it helps. I've noticed a rapid calming effect on my heart when I've used it.
good luck,
penny

Paul,
It's all about utilization and effective delivery to the cells. People sometimes have a hard time understanding how utilization affects dosage. Consider the following:
Synthetic vitamin C: Ascrobic Acid
Utilization: 15%
Recommended dose: 1000mg
Effective delivery: 150mg
Food-state vitamin C: Complex structure
Utilization: 90%
Recommended dose: 166mg
Effective delivery: 150mg
Study the above and you'll get an idea why mega-dosing is not necessary when consuming food-state nutrients. I am one who believes that mega-dosing on synthetic (so-called "natural") vits. and mins. is dangerous and potentially toxic. I get 75mg of food-state magnesium a day (EXcluding content in edible foods), for affective delivery of at least 65mg of SUPPLEMENTED naturally-occuring magnesium. A good chelate of pharmaceutical grade magnesium provids maybe 50% effective delivery. Thus:
Magnesium glycinate: Pharmaceutical grade
Utilization: 50%
Recommended dose: 400mg
Effective delivery: 200mg
Food-state Magnesium: Complex structure
Utilization: 90%
Recommended dose: 222mg
Effective delivery: 200mg
Personally, I take one food-based multi that contains 25mg of magnesium, and one of the 50mg magnesium tablets each day. I believe this is a superior grade nutrient and adequate at this dosage. Good luck.

Dr.
You seem to agree with Peters post regarding megafood magnesium . but, seem to recommend asparatate or Glycinate?

Hi, Paul.
There are new magnesium products coming on the market all the time now that the evidence is so overwhelming as to it's importance and nearly universal deficiency.
Many of these MAY be more absorbable than glycinate, orotate or aspartate. However, they still do not have the track records to back them up.
STILL, your personal laboratory (your bodymind) is the best way to tell what is best for YOU.
