Magnesium Glycinate - When to take?

Posted by Paul on June 09, 2001 at 13:31:40:

I've gotten conflicting advice on when it is best to take magnesium glycinate. On the Kal bottle, it says to take it with a meal or a glass of water. The people at Doctor's Best Vitamins tell me you should take it between meals. Anybody have anything definitive to say about this matter? When is it best to take mag. glycinate for maximum absorbability? With food or on an empty stomach?

I guess you could make a case for either. Since it is chelated with an amino acid, it might be best to treat as an amino acid, which is best taken on an empty stomach. On the other hand, since it is a mineral supplement, perhaps it is best taken with a meal.

Thanks in advance for any contributions.

Paul

Hi, Paul.

It is best taken when there is a high level of acid in the stomach. This is usually during meals UNLESS you are deficient in HCL and then it is best taken between meals when food in the stomach is not competing with the chelated molecule.

Hope this helps.
