Dr. Stoll,
What form of magnesium supplement would you recommend? My doctor agreed that I'm probably not absorbing magnesium, and gave me a magnesium injection the other day to try to get things moving along, absorption wise, but I didn't think to ask if one form of magnesium is more absorbable than another. Or are they all pretty much the same? I'm currently taking 800 mg. every morning, and it's magnesium oxide & magnesium asparatate, in capsule form.
Thanks!
Sara

Dear Sara,
Magnesium oxide is not absorbable whereas the aspartate is VERY absorbable. The best I know is orotate, aspartate & glycinate.
Congratulations on having a doc who is savvy enough to give you an injection of magnesium. NOW, you need to know how much elemental magnesium was injected. In MY experience, it takes at least a gram of ELEMENTAL magnesium per injection, given at least 3 times a week over a 2 week period, to raise the intracellular level enough to help you absorb it orally. It is perfectly safe to give at least that much at each sitting. I use twice that. If your doc doesn't know that, you might remind him of the correct IM dose for treatment of eclampsia. It is several times this dose and no one has ever had any negative reaction to THOSE doses for the at least 50 years it has been used successfully.

I find it interesting that when magnesium is injected,
it makes a certain part of my body get warm. Apparently it differs for everybody. Oddly enough, it goes the
area of my throat where the chakra is located...This happens to be a chakra that is blocked at the moment. I realize that is somewhat subjective, but then what reasons could be given as to why the magnesium warms up a different part of the body depending on the patient?

Dear Thomas,
At the risk of sounding mystical I will say that "the body has its wisdom".
Ask me that again in about 50 years.

In all probability Thomas, the blockage is occuring because there
isn't enough energy going straight through. Therefore when
your body gets an "extra shot" it uses it to remove whatever
blocks exist, much like 'healing energy' tends to go to whatever part of the body physically needs repairing.
It happens on whatever level 'illness' occurs; physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and energetic. These are not
separate levels but interpenetrate so often what is focused on
on is taking place on another also.
