My husband is 27.It was detected about 12 years ago a MVP.
He had no symptons. The situation is one group want to operate to prevent fututre problems, one of the greatest doctors in Portugal said the operation is not necessary.
Who can we contact? We don't know what to do.
I believe the operation could be an experience and because the medicine is growing up every day

Dear Sandra,
If the diagnosis is correct (that this is truly MVP) ANYONE recommending surgery is wrong. MVP has no symptoms of its own. If you wonder about that, go to the archives for this BB & read about it.
However, there is a condition called mitral valve regurgitation which is almost always caused by rheumatic heart disease. THAT condition IS an indication for surgery in selected patients.
He MUST have an accurate diagnosis to know if anything could be (or should be) done.
Walt

Dear Sandra,
Being in Portugal, your very best bet would be to go to the FAQ page of this 'site and read about the Health Coaching service. If he is willing to share ALL of his health history (as described in that service) with the BB participants, it is a free service since my main goal is to get this kind of information out to as many of the public as possible. Just be sure to title the subject something that would draw the attention of others with similar problems.
If you want to do it privately & pay for the service, do what it says on the Health Coaching link.
In the meantime, it seems that he has two different opinions. I would get a third to break the tie. You already know what I think about that. Get a recomendation from someone you can trust about which cardiologist to see in consultation (that knows nothing about the other cardiologists who have given opinions already).
