Hello. I have had "palpitations" for over a year. For a long time I associated them with caffiene and nicotine and did not much worry about them. About three months ago, I had an "episode". I got really weak feeling, really shaky like bad nervous, kinda dizzy-fainty feeling, and my heart was palpitating. It lasted for about ten minutes then got better but came back on me an hour later and lasted for another ten minutes. After that episode, I decided to go to the doctor. My doctor checked me out, took blood samples, done an EKG. He said on my EKG that one of my "highs" was low, but that could be normal for me. He decided to put a holter monitor on me. So I wore it for 24 hours. When I went in for the results, he told me I had a "premature beat", and that it was nothing serious, that the caffiene and nicoine was probably aggrivating it making me have the palpitations (which feel like skipped beats), and that if I cut these out it would probably not bother me anymore. He even told me he had the same thing himself. I felt better. I cut my caffiene usage down to one coke a day and cut back on the smokes from 25 a day to less than 10 a day. Seemed to work, I did not have one palpitation for a month! Then, wham. I had another episode out of the blue. The weakness, shaking nervousness, dizzyness, palpitations. Just like last time, ten minutes got better for an hour, then another ten minutes. I went back to the doc and told him I wanted to see a heart doctor. So he gave me a referral. The heart doctor put me on the stress test, running on a treadmill. I passed that ok, ran for about 11 minutes. I told them I could go a little longer but they said that was ok. He also gave me an echocardiogram, and some other test a cardiolite I think or something like that, they injected the isotopes into my veins through an IV and put me in a machine that took "pictures" of my heart. Well, I got the results from him today, and he said I had the mitral valve syndrome. He put me on beta blockers and told me to come back in 6 months to have all the tests run again to see if it gets worse I suppose. From all that I have told you, what do you think?

I've never had it diagnosed but I have the same symptoms from time to time. The first few times it freaked me out but once I made the connection with stress they became less frequent and hardly happen anymore. SR made the difference.

James.

ALL of these symptoms are due to dysautonomia and have nothing to do with any ersatz MVP! Listen to Joe and PH.

The beta blocker will probably help your symptoms because they would supress the symptoms of dysautonomia. Are you one of those who put black tape over the red warning light on the dashboard of your car so you won't have to worry about it any more? Your doctor is!

Come on!

Walt
