Mital valve prolapse and exercises

Posted by Laura on February 18, 2003 at 10:00:33:

I just found out a few weeks ago that I have MVP, I am 34. A friend with the same problem loaned me a book on MVP, and I am wondering why there are some exercises that a MVP person can not do.there were at least 7 exercises that we were absolutely not supposed to do...and what about the bouncing around? I just don't get it! please explain.

thanks...Laura

you know what...never mind... I don't want any responses from here....I have read the archives on this subject...and I don't like what I read!!!! I have a book "Confronting Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome" by Lyn Frederickson M.S.N
this book have been very helpful to me, and answered alot of questions, except for one on the exercises...and I will find that answer somewhere else....MVP is a real condition...some of the symptoms can be controlled by US,but some of them cannot, and would require medication.
MVP is not a fad!!!!
I'm not trying to be rude...but I don't want any help from here!
Thanks...Laura

I used to think the exact same way you do. I had all the classic "symtoms" of "mvp", was even diagnosed with it and put on beta blockers/xanax ect. I got Lyn Frederickson's book 10 years ago, she has good intentions with some good advice (some bad) but, missed the boat. I thought I was doomed but, after a few more years of suffering, I began practicing wellness and all of a sudden, those symptoms that my doc said I needed the meds for, were totaly gone. And have not returned in over 2 1/2 years. So, yes Laura, not to be rude but, mvp is a fad.

Hi Laura,
I also have MVP and I DON'T believe it is a fad. Yes I have had all the palpatations, the tiredness and all that goes with MVP. When it comes to exercises, well what can I say, I have been working out on a daily basis for the past 25 odd years. There is no exercise I avoid due to MVP. I think it is completely up to you....if you find that there is something that bothers you when you do it..don't do it, there are so many other exercises to do. Take care!

Laura,

My experience is the same as Jon's, right down to the meds. I also had an irregular heartbeat (something they called PAC's). After practicing wellness for a few years, I no longer have these symptoms. The docs shrug and poo poo the wellness as having nothing to do with it. They say it "just went away".

Also leaving were the anxiety attacks, high blood pressure, chronic indigestion, achy joints, and sore muscles.

To see the connection between wellness practices and chronic disease is difficult at first. Just know there is a way out of these things. The pills are a dead end!

first of all....several months before I was told that I have MVP, I was having some chest pains, but...and this is a big but..He he..... I will admitt that after I was told about MVP, my chest pains intensified...and I think that much is all in my head...no saying that I'm crazy, but it just seems funny to me that they grew worse....and they are real pains...sometimes really painful!!!!! and scary...but I think it's just...ummm how do I put it....power of suggestion.
But please explain to me the nocturnal panic attacks..I've had those for years, and they scared the H-ll out of me for a very long time, I would feel as though I was chocking on something or swallowing some strange object, wake up gasping for air...and scared out of my mind... WHY????
I would really like some answers.... and what about the reguritation??? apparently I have some of that when my valve prolapses...what's up with that??????
I do have an open mind, and I will consider what everyone says.....but according to my Dr. a Cardiologist looked at me echocardiogram....is he wrong??
Gotta run..time to go home...

thanks...Laura

Laura, no one is denying that your symptoms are very REAL. Dr. Stoll's article basically just says that these symptoms are not caused by MVP. (And even if they were, I suppose the "cure" would still be the same: wellness, SR, ...)

Laura, before/after I was diagnosed with mvp, I used to get chest pains ALL THE TIME!! Often to the point where they were so intense, that I wound up in the emergency room. This is stress related, not heart related. How does a "lazy" heart valve cause a panic attack? It doesn't. I was where you are many years ago. You have a lot to learn and apply if you want to get over this. You say you have an open mind, then check out these archives on Dr. Stoll's site:

Skilled Relaxation, Wellness, Brain Chemistry, also, you need to strart getting some good magnesium. This worked wonders for me, 400-600 mg/day of magnesium Glycinate. Don't get Oxide it is poorly assimilated.

I went from being a "basket case" to being normal again by practicing what I learned here.

Thnaks, J.I.

Isn't is convenient that the practitioners of the monopoly can blithely say "spontaneous remission" as an explanation?

I get what your saying, but what about the mitral valve regurgitation? is that not real??? Maybe I'm not understanding the whole concept who knows!!!!

and can you try not to come off like the rest of us are stupid for believing in our primary care physicians....you seem to have a very condensending attitude.

Hi Laura,

Unfortunately, many primary care physicians are not very good at handling this kind of problem. They are allopathicallly trained, and although allopathic medicine is very very good at curing acute injury and illness, it is very very bad at curing chronic illness. That is why, after sometimes seeing several conventional physicians, people with chronic illness are still sick and get so desperate that they look for help on the internet.

Regarding mitral valve regurgitation, I assume you have read this page: http://askwaltstollmd.com/mvp.html. Perhaps you have "Rheumatic Valvular Insufficiency" or "Stenosis and Myxomatous Mitral Valvular insufficiency". If so, you do not have MVP as defined on this site.

If you do have MVP as defined on this site, then your symptoms do not come from the MVP, and you can cure yourself by practicing lifestyle changes.

Good luck,
Bill

I am begining to get it.... I am going to send for a copy of your book.... I do understand that mvp doesn't cause the symptoms....and the more I think about and look at my life...I can see where stress plays a HUGE!!! part in it all....If I listed out everything that has happened in the last 3 years of my life....one would wonder why I'm not already dead....or at the very least in a mental institute!
LOL

Thanks for everyone's response...and I am looking forward to reading your book and implementing SR into my daily routine.

Laura,

Congratulations for not leaving! You will be really happy that you found this site and stuck around to ask questions.

The book will help to make even more sense of your problems and how to approach fixing them.

Best of luck

I believe Dr. Stoll's comment that "There are none so blind as those who will not see!" was directed at the doc's ... not you.
