Dr. Stoll,
First I would like to thank you for answering my questions about cortisone. I became familiar with the terrible side effects of that steroid when I had the reactions. Needless to say, I will NEVER do it again.
My next question is this: My dentist wants me to take Amoxicillan prior to a routine cleaning to avoid Bacterial Endocarditis. I have never taken antibiotics before going to the dentist in my 21.5 years of life. 1) Do I REALLY need to take it? I mean, I know it is preventative but I HATE taken oral meds. 2) After this cortisone experience I am totally freaked out about EVERYTHING, I know longer feel like I know my body like I thought I did. My cardiologist said if I have not taken them before I don't really need to now. But another cardiologist who reviewed my echocardiogram, whom I have never met, who practices at the same hospital, says I do. WHAT DO I DO?

By they way,
I have had multiple surgeries including:
1) pins in femur due to a broken leg at age 9
2) wisdom teeth extractions (2 seperate operations)
3) Breast implants
And have never been prescribed antibiotics and have never had any problems...all of this happened before the "MVP" diagnosis

Hi, Angela.
If you have read the MVP archives you know that this is a FAD "diagnosis" that already is being abandoned by conventional physicians.
Next: ALL the research in the past 15 years has shown unequivocally that prophylactic pre-dental antibiotics are totally worthless even for the real valvular lesions like rheumatic heart disease. In my opinion, the cardiologist who says you should take them has not learned anything in the past 15 years. I would stay far away from HIM!
I guess you are just going to have to learn enough to protect yourself from the allopathic monopoly.
Walt
