MVP/Strep?

Posted by Leigh [1430.20] on August 23, 2008 at 09:30:05:

Hi Dr. Stoll & Jan,

I have been doing the 3LS for the past 4 months (very strictly for the diet & exercise, not as strict on the SR part, but will get back to that, as well). I am also taking many great supplements, including, RenewLife Cleanse tablets, PrimalDefense... (By the way, I feel great, energetic, and strong!)

Recent past health history:
Besides LGS/Candidiasis type symptoms, I previously had intermittant left knee swelling for 4 years. I was checked for everything: MRIs & xrays (normal), infectious diseases (normal)...

I went to a Rheumatologist and he diagnosed me with Post-Streptoccal Arthritis (high ASO and anti-DNase titers). He wanted me to go on antibiotics for a year, I did it for a month and then was smart enough (thankfully) to go off of them.

At the time the Rheumatologist had me get an echocardiogram to make sure that the strep antibody didn't get to my heart. It showed possible MPV/regurgitation and they wanted me to do a follow-up. Frustrated with the whole medical system, I did not follow up.

When the swelling became so severe and I had exhausted all other options, I had arthroscopic surgery - (Synovectomy) to remove the inflamation (doctor left about 20% of my synovial lining. He said the lining eventually grows back and hopefully normally). I knew that it would grow back healthy because of the changes to my lifestyle (3LS).

The surgeon sent me to another Rheumatologist (the chief rheumatologist of the hospital - great credentials). He looked at all of my history and said that I DID NOT have Post-Streptococcal Arthritis. He said that if I had it, it would have affected another joint by now. He said the swelling probable came from some minor structural issue that did not show up on the MRI. When I asked him about the high strep antibodies in my titers, he said that many people could have that and that it does not have to be related to the swelling.

(I used to get strep thoats alot in my youth, so I thought that maybe that's why it was high. Or maybe I had a slight strep systemic infection going on which would be healed by 3LS).

Current Situation:

I noticed some heart palpitations (pounding, racing, fluttery heartbeats) so I went to my general physician. She thought she may have heard a "click" and ordered a 48 hour holter monitor and an echocardiogram.

The results of the echocardiogram:
1. Suboptimal image quality (the tech was new and had trouble with the image disappearing).
2. Normal left ventricular size and systolic function.
3. Trace to small pericardial effusion.
4. Borderline mitral valve prolapse with trace mitral regurgitation.
5. Mild tricuspid regurgitation.

The results of the 48-hour Holter Monitor:
1. Minimum heart rate 44 bpm (sleeping), maximum heart rate 148 bpm (exercise), and average heart rate 68 bpm.
2. Total of 4 isolated supraventicular ectopic beats present with no supraventricular couplets or runs. There were no ventricular ectopic beats present.
3. No arrythmia was presents during recorded symptoms (just sinus tachycardia during increased physical activity, etc..)

My questions:

1). I read some of the archives about MVP and saw that you said if regurgitation is related to strep a it is 'dangerous', with my history, could that be going on with me?

2). Does the pericardial effusion have anything to do with the previous strep situation?

3). My doctor said that they over-read MVP all the time and that the machines now pick up everything, so I may not even have it?

4). Could all of this be related to the fact that I'm doing the cleanse and 3LS? My body is undergoing healthy transformation and experiencing some fleeting odd symptoms?

Sorry the post is so long, but you have given me so much valuable information in the past, that I really wanted to get your input.

Thank you very much in advance!

Leigh

Hi Leigh,

"(I used to get strep thoats alot in my youth, so I thought that maybe that's why it was high. Or maybe I had a slight strep systemic infection going on which would be healed by 3LS). "

Or maybe the one month of antibiotics helped more than
you thought it would?
Might be worth checking your Strep titers again to see if they are much lower.

Were you ever tested for Lyme Disease?

Hi Ron,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I had my titers checked often for the first few years. I was also tested for Lyme and it was negative, but good suggestions.

Thanks,
Leigh

Hi Leigh,

I meant after the month of antibiotics...
Was the strep titre lowered by them?

The one titer goes up and down (antibiotics didn't seem to make much of a difference), the other assay always stayed the same (the doctor said that one wouldn't change).

Hi Leigh,

Your questions are more complex than I can answer, but I will agree that it is true while the body is recovering, sometimes odd symptoms occur. I've seen it both with the 3LS and also sometimes with some people who receive massage... seems to be part of the "healing crisis."

I generally tend not to worry about small things that happen just once or twice, but if something recurs or seems to be getting worse, then it is good to have it checked out.

Congratulations on 4 months of the 3LS and how great you are now feeling! Just wait until after a year or two :o)!

Best wishes,
Jan

Hi, Leigh.

I am sorry but I could hot suppress a "grim grin" many times through your excellent history of what has been going on. Your journey is a big part of what is wrong with the US "disease care system"!

First of all, you have a good start with the 3LS but most benefits begin at 6 to 12 months, with more to come after that. Keep on keeping on and please stop wasting your money on the allopathic treadmill you have been on so far--in my opinion. It looks like you have been getting more idiopathic damage from your erroneous diagnoses and subsequent treatments than you could have done by yourself--again in my opinion.

Walt

Thank you, Jan. That's what I have been thinking... that my body is undergoing changes from the healing. Yes, I do look forward to continuing positive changes doing the 3LS!

Thank you, Walt!

Yeah, it's almost if you look hard enough they will find something to tell you you have. I am glad that I have been doing my own research... with yours and other holistic books and made healthy lifestyle changes. Just reading your response gave me relief! Thanks, again... Leigh
