I am very confused about this whole mvp thing. I was diagnosed with this about 2 years ago- I am 20 now. I understand that MVP is not the cause of my palpatations, etc. and even my cardiologists agrees with that. However, with MVP, he says there is usually a very small amount of blood which leaks back. I have a very small amount of regurgitation, which he prescribe antibiotics for. Now, I know that Mitral Valve regurgitation is different from MVP, but the regurgitation that is diagnosed with routine MVP, is that still benign??? I am so confused!!!! Also, I have tried so hard to reasearh this ( for two years now) and everything calls MVP a "benign syndrom with possible consequences of lethal arrhythmias and sudden death" How is that benign??!!!! I guess I am just lost. I truly believe that you are entirely correct on your perspectives of MVP. I just don't understand why the rest of the medical community can't just explain MVP like you do. Your response would be much appreciated!!!! Thanks

Hi, lauren.
It is NO WONDER that you would be confused! The entire profession will have to think differently before THEY stop being confused as well. It would be nice if you could be around in 50 years when this shameful period is seen from the perspective of history. You can bet that no physician will then even remember that they had scared the public, for a generation, with a FAD diagnosis.
The tiny bit of regurgitation that happens with classical MVP it negligable and ANY treatment for it is ludicrous and HAS to cause more damage than the condition itself.
Rheumatic Heart Disease is a different ball of wax but it behooves any physician to PROVE that that is the diagnosis before ANY treatment. The physician who gave you the prophylactic antibiotics is one to avoid since even RHD has been found to not warrent prophylactic antibiotics (At least several large studies over the past 20 years.) It surely takes a lot to change physician's minds!
I challenge any physician, who cleaves to the ridiculous statement "a benign syndrome with possible consequences of lethal arrythmias and sudden death", to produce ONE case in which this has happened!!! This is the antithesis of "benign" as you so perceptively noticed. What a bunch of b---S---!
Hope this hslps.
