Dr. Stoll, I was wondering why you do not believe in a
correlation between MVP and the cluster of health
compaints people wth this affliction often suffer. I never
knew I had an MVP, and then 11 years ago at age 25 I
was having difficulty getting breaths. My co-worker
noticed it and asked if I had an MVP. I told him No and
he explained that he sometimes experienced the same
inability to get a breath as well as panic attacks and
gastointestinal upsets that came out of no where. He
said the symptoms came and went at random, and
sometimes he was symptom free for years at a time,
only to have the problems resurface. Later that year I
became lightheaded and almost passed out when
walking up a hill near my house (I live in San Francisco
and walk up hills all the time). I went to a cardiologist
and he diagnosed the MVP after some tests. I too suffer
from the inability to get a deep breath, stomach upset,
panic attacks, and heart palpitations that are common
in this syndrome. I have had them off and on since
being diagnosed, with the best years of almost no
symptoms being between age 28-34. Now I have many
symptoms (especially very rapid pounding heartbeats
after even slight excercise). I am in excellent health and
have been doing aerobic excercise 3-5 times a year my
entire aldult life. Now suddenly I find myself getting out
of breath and dizzy just during warm ups. I also suspect
that I have hormonal issues that are making this worse.
I have met many people over the last ten years who
have a strikingly similar set of symptoms and they all
have MVP. Why do you insist that it is CRS? Just
curious.

Hi, DonnaC.
What have you learned from reading the archives and the homepage about this?
Why do you think it is that the few surgical repairs of MVP (no longer recommended or done by ANYONE) did not change the symptoms one iota?
