I had read some time ago, somewhere, that poor hygiene of
the mouth could lead to certain heart conditions or
problems, because of the bacteria and acids formed in there.
I needed to know if MVP is one of these heart condition that
could be brought on by poor oral hygiene. Thank for any info
on my question. If you can, please e-mail me back. Thank
you.
Sincerely,

Katia,
MVP is NOT a valid condition!
Go to the home page and the glossary and the archives and THEN let us know what you have learned.

Oh! In other words you don't know the answer and you want me
to do your homework for something you should know. Boy! Am I
GLAD I'm not one of your patients

Hi Katie,
have you actually been diagnosed with MVP?? I have had problems with my heart as a result of chronic stress. I have had skipped heart beats, heart pounding, panic attacks, costochondritis, head aches, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), TMJ etc etc.
The first cardiologist I saw actually said that I have MVP. However, after getting a second opinion at the University Hospital I work in, it became clear that many many people have a prolapsing bicuspid valve (I have without any regurgitation) and that the diagnosis based on the Doppler echo actually shows that this is a normal anatomical variation of the valve. The only reason that it is picked up nowadays is because the echo technique is now so sensitive that we actually can pick it up .. some cardiologists now feel that it is in fact neither an abnormality nor a disease. They now reserve the diagnosis of MVP for those patients who have a severe prolapse with regurgitation who run the risk of heart failure. Those patients who have severe prolapse are advised to take antibiotics prior to any surgical or dental procedure, because they run the risk that bacteria end up in the blood stream and an infection of the valve could lead to stenosis of the valve or chambers or an infection of the heart muscle (but even the need for antibiotics is now being disputed). Commonly, stenosis of the valve and prolapse is induced by Rheumatic fever or some other heart trauma. If you haven’t had this or haven’t been diagnosed with MVP .. don’t worry too much. If your doctor advises you to take antibiotics prior to any procedure, take the advice, until there is scientific consensus between cardiologist about MVP.
The fact that I could talk to my cardiologist was only possible because I have been involved in research into heart disease as a cell biologist a couple of years ago, so I have some knowledge about it .. but then again, this was the reason why I actually had problems with my first cardiologist .. I am a difficult patient, because I am a medical scientist myself (and MDs don’t like it when the patient actually doesn’t say YES and AMEN to everything they say).
Finally, it turned out that, as a result of chronic stress (too many hours in the lab), I was suffering from dysautonomia (an imbalance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system). After about 9 months of feeling extremely ill (and much frustration with MDs), I finally found a doctor who had some knowledge about the condition and his views are much the same as Dr Stoll’s, as is his approach to curing it. I am doing much better now and am finally ready to go back to work.
Hope this helps

P.S. The link to your GLOSSARY/INDEX isn't working, which
makes it kinda hard to LEARN. After your original answer
though, I don't know why this whole experience doesn't
surprise me. You sound like ill-tempered curmudge

Hi Greg,
Thanx for acknowledging my post. I appreciate all the info
you've given me. No, I do not have MVP. The reason that I
wanted to know was because I remember reading somewhere, a
long time ago, that poor oral hygiene can bring certain
heart conditions. So, I wanted to know if MVP was one of
these conditions. Also, I visit a certain grieving board,
where a lady there wrote that she had MVP, and that because
of this condition, she was not to take antibiotics before
having dental work done. So, her post triggered this memory
on my having read this somewhere. Thanx again for taking
the time to explain with your post to my question.

Intentional ignorance may be less damaging than intentional
dishonesty. Why did you not inform people that your license
to practice medicine had been revoked? Since it is virtually
impossible to lose a medical license, what kind of
intentional ignorance or intentionalincompetence did you
demonstrate? Greg sent me the info on MVP, which should
have been in your non-existing glossary/index page and he's
not even a doctor! ...but then neither are you.

I have had no problem getting to the glossary and index, AND Dr. Stoll (who is still a doctor since he will always be an MD) OPENLY posted his story about why he lost his license.
What is everyone's problem lately?

You are right in saying that when you click on "glossary/index above, it doesn't work. However, if you go to the home page, you will find another list which gives the glossary/index which does bring up the Glossary.
If you can't find it, write again. Raisa

Your response to his answer was rather rude. He told you just where to look to find the informaton you wanted. Sorry, but it seems like you were looking for a fight.

Katia, you wrote Dr. Stoll asking about MVP and then things got weird. I found this site back in November after being really tortured by PVC's. The regular Dr. (ob/gyn & cardiologist blew it, nothing wrong with me, but offered no really constructive advice). After reading extensively in the archives and communicating with Dr. Stoll via this Board, I have been practicing relaxation techniques and taking a very good magnesium supplement. I now only get PVC's rarely, but you have to find the solutions that work for you. For me, being a high-strung personality is a lot of it. It sounds to me like you have unresolved stress that you are taking out here on this page? The stress is a BIG factor, I am so in tune to it I can almost peg when I will get the PVC's at work if I am under a lot of stress. I recommend that you read "Mind as Healer, Mind as Slayer" and Dr. Stoll's book is excellent also. Good luck.

Congratulations, Jackie.
You deserve your results! It was a lot of discipline and work but I will bet that you would say it was worth it.
Namaste`
