I have been suffering from severe bouts of itching for over 4 years. I've eliminated nuts and chocolate and coffee for a while. At first the itching was just on one forearm, then the other. Now, it is up and down the both arms. I scratch as it is unbearable. I have woken up many a night scratching...I take several Benadryl 25mg to get to sleep. At night I often get up and 'ice' both arms. I take a Zyrtec in the AM, and just recently started taking Atarax during the day instead of Benadryl. Help!!! I can't take many more sleepless nights...I feel like ripping the skin off of my arms...it is so bad. Iam a recovering alcoholic with just over 5 years of sobriety. The itching started around my 6th sober month.
Thank you for any advice...
Sandy

Hi, Sandy.
Sounds like "neurodermatitis" to me about to become "adventitious dermatitis". Look them up and let us know what you think. If you have any doubt you might just suggest these to your doc and see what she says.
Let us know what you learn. There IS a solution to this but, as in alcoholism, the person has to accept the diagnosis before the solution can be accepted.
