Dr. Stoll-Suggestions on how to improve skin after many years of sun abuse??

Not just aesthetically, but from the inside out?? I've read and heard many times that sun exposure is cumulative and damage cannot be undone like smoking, but even if that is true is there anything that can be done to help prevent the formation of skin cancers (especially melanoma)?

Thanks in advance.

Laurie,

Chronic sun exposure produces a radiation injury which is cumulative and life-long. You can still help your skin reduce the damage by taking at least 400 units of mixed tocopherols (vitamin E) daily and at least 4000 milligrams (divided doses AM & PM) of esterified vitamin C daily along with at least 4000 milligrams of omega 3s daily.

Protecting yourself from further radiation helps the most.

Good luck!

Walt

There are many studies that indicate that if you have previously neglected your skin and incur sun damage, you can still help it to repair itself by protecting it with sunscreen and physical barriers to the sun from now on.

Furthermore, Vitamin E and lycopene are incredibly protective to the skin. Indeed, studies have shown that the skin of individuals with skin cancer contains abnormally low levels of lycopene.
