Lou Gehrigs Disease...

Posted by Paulette on June 21, 2002 at 02:06:33:

A female relative was recently diagnosed with this disorder. It started by affectiong her speech which became slurred. She is now to the point of not being able to speak at all, tongue is swollen, and she uses a tissue constantly to wipe the saliva because she cant swallow. She does have a feeding tube. I was wondering if she will ever be able to eat or drink. Right now she cant even drink water. How many months/years can one live with this type of disorder? She is still walking, arms and legs seem to be working well, it just seems to effect her swallowing and face muscles. Thank you

Hi, Paulette -
I wish I could tell you that this disease can be cured, but to date there is no cure, except, of course, a miracle which could happen! I have known two people with this disease - it gets progressively worse and is eventually fatal - one friend lasted 5 years. Hopefully, Dr. Stoll or someone else will know of something which could help her.
In the meantime, her mental attitude and family support will definitely help her cope with this. Raisa

Hi, Paulette.

With those presenting symptoms, it should not take too long (probably less than a year).

It is now known that most chronic, degenerative, neurological diseases (of which ALS is a perfect example) are at least seriously aggravated by a genetic hypersensitivity to environmental chemicals. If I had this the first person I would see is a good clinical ecologist (see the Multiple Chemical Sensitivities archives for how to find one) and learn to enhance the liver's detoxification abilities (see the liver and detox archives). You would also learn from the neurological archives.

She would at least show very significant improvement. I would not hold my breath, though, for her docs to learn anything from the "miracle" they are witnessing right before their eyes.

Let us know if she is willing to learn of her options.

Namaste`

Walt

By this statement do you mean she could die within the year?

Yes, Paulette, if nothing but conventional thinking is used.
