Does anyone have any knowledge of loss of sense of smell and taste? Especially, flavor. I have been hyposmia for about 6 years now and would like to know if there is something I can take to perhaps bring back my sense of smell/taste. I've done a lot of research on this but just thought I'd try this board. One never knows do one. Thanks.

Hi, China.
This is a neurological problem which can have as many causes as any other neurological problem. What is YOUR cause? You lack of taste is probably totally due to the anosmia since taste is almost totally based upon smell.
With no further information serious wellness, so as to more fully utilize what function you have left, is my best suggestion.

I don't know what caused the a hyposmia. It is not viral and I had no head injury as far as I can recall. I know that I fell skiing, saw stars but that was the bulk of it. That could be the cause. I've had testings done at UConn and the diagnosis was hyposmia along with allergic rhinitis. I can smell certain things, and I can taste certain things, but it is extremely minimal. I had MRI of the sinus but nothing there. I have not had an MRI of the head, brains. I am scared. But I don't have any problems or symptons of the head to warrant this. I've done a lot of research on this and it doesn't seem to be a cure unless you are willing to spend thousands of dollars at a clinic in Wash. D.C. which really cannot guarantee that the medications will work. I have heard that some people have been on the meds for years and their acruity is very little. I keep searching for some kind of a miracle. But I have resorted to the fact that I am hyposmia and I am dealing with the situation. I will read through your neurological archives and see if there's something I am missing. But if you ever run across something new with anosmia, do let me know via private email. Thanks so much.
China.
