Dear Dr. Stoll,
I found this site quite by accident. I wasn't researching medical information at all...I was doing a trivia quiz and needed a story with a caterpillar and a hare--so I was cheating and did a search and ended up in Jim Hare's archive...the caterpillars in the classroom was a match.
Jim and I have begun corresponding...his sense of humor has made me laugh out loud all week long. I am in total agreement that he should get published!
Re: My MS. The reason I am writing you. I have a fairly good neurologist now. He listens to me...I have secondary progressive MS...the kind that can't be managed with the ABC or R drugs. So at this time I am taking neurontin (up to 2800 mg a day), zanaflex (12 mgs), Prozac (20 mg), ambien (i think 10mg) and klonopin (10 mg). None of the meds are helping my neurogenic pain. It literally feels like my legs are being roasted over an open fire. Other neuros put me on narcotics...but I stopped doing that route. I did not like feeling like a zombie.
My neuro suggested neurofeedback. I don't know whether I was impatient, but since I experience vision problems, it was hard for me to look at the patterns on the screen. My neuro suggested acupuncture as the next route. I am not sure if you know of any medications that can help without making me a total gork. I was sleeping 18 hours a day when I was on oxycontin.
I was wondering if you know of any diet or vitamins that may help me. I am stuck at 92lbs.--and I'll be honest...I eat alot of junk foods. (I either crave sugar or salt). My meat intake is limited to small amounts of chicken or fish. I love vegetables.
I would appreciate any and all advice.
Thanks
Lil Jeanie

Hi, Liljeanie.
First of all, refined foods have all their calories but few (or none) of the micronutrients your body needs to repair any damage ongoing with your "MS". I put "MS" in italics because, as you must know, at least 85% of pre-mortum MS diagnoses are found to be incorrect at post-mortum. Those 85% (and now it is thought even most of the true MS diagnoses) are due to environmental pollution and the individual's genetic hypersensitivity to them.
The first thing you need to do is find a good Clinical Ecologist near to you (see the archives for how to find one) and take copies of all your records (along with a lifetime history as described in the Health Coaching Protocol) with you for your initial consultation.
Next, anyone with this terrible condition needs to learn about R.L. Swank, MD's lifetime research with diet and MS. Your library can find you a copy of his lay book on this subject.
Finally it is imperative that you supply your body with the breadth of micronutrients, the absence of which has to be aggravating your condition, necessary for repair. The best way to do that is to get Beth Loiselle, RD's book "The Healing Power of Whole Foods" and start the "Perfect Food" (green lable) from gardenoflifeusa.com at 5-6 a day.
Let us know what you learn and how you do.
Walt

Why don't you try to get cytokine testing done? If they are out of wack you can look into leukocyte, monocyte, granulocyte depleting therapy via a blood filter. The do it in Japan and England for auto immune conditions.
