Bells Palsey

Posted by Elizabeth on January 26, 2000 at 16:10:58:

A friend of mine had a bout with Bells Palsey a while back. She is now experiencing symptoms again, which seem to be more severe. I can't locate anything on your site. Is it true that this is something that goes away most of the time within a few months or sometimes up to a year. It would seem to me that the more severe, the more chance one would have of having some residual effects. Can you tell me anything. Thank you again. I love this site. It is so helpful. Thank you.

I copied Bells Palsey from your post into the site search engine and immediately came up with 13 related posts, the first and possibly best of them (I did not look at them all) is linked below.

Hope this helps!

thank you so much. I just gave the information to my friend and she was very interested. You two are so thoughtful and helpful to all of us. I know how much everyone appreciates both you and Dr. Stoll. Thank you again.

I have recently been diagnosed with bells palsey and am having a hard time finding information on the subject. Could you give me some brief background information on what it is and the possible causes and any information on medication or anything to help relieve the troublesome symptoms would be very much appreciated! Thank you!!

Karen,

While you're waiting for a reply I was going to suggest you read through the archives, however, it's apparent you've already done that.

Might want to read the string of posts and possbily look up the site listed below. Naturally, I'm not a doctor, however, have learned valuable information from the archives and glossary. Noticed that this isn't in the glossary, however, apparent everything can't be listed. It would be tooo large to handle. RHJ++ does excellent job handling as it is and he's in process of cutting back!:-)

Hope this helps you in the meantime. Take Care of Yourself.

Hi, Karen.

*Use the search engine for Bell's Palsy.

The cause seems to be pressure on the 7th (facial) nerve and can be caused by many things. ANYTHING that can relieve the pressure on the nerve will relieve the condition. Since the structural causes are better understood and can be dealt with by a Cranial Osteopath, that is where I would start. The metabolic mechanism are not so well understood but the people who work with the structural causes would know as much about that as anyone.

See the glossary for any unfamiliar terms.

Let us know how you do.

Walt
