Not sure if this has been posted here before. Didn't see it in the archives, and it's such an easy preventative fix for all of us!

Sarah,
Don't you think doing any health related thing, diet, exercise or supplements will help prevent a host of diseases? I do..

Well, no, I don't think doing "any" health related thing will help prevent diseases. In fact, I think there's almost as much misinformation, misdirection and wishful thinking in the "alternative" health community as there is in Western medicine.
I'm a logical person. I believe in studies and lab results and statistical probabilities. I also believe in dumb luck, and bad luck, and things just HAPPENING. For no good reason. I believe that sometimes we don't know why something works, but it just DOES (ginger root juice for GERD, liver flush....) But I think too many people out there on both sides of the issue think everything is black and white: either ALL Western medicine is flat out wrong, or ALL alternative therapies are nuts. That's just not logical to me.
This is a little OT, but I've long felt that the narrow-mindedness of MDs is sometimes only matched by the narrow-mindedness of their sworn enemies! I think people need to research, form their own opinions, and not follow everything they read (especially online!) hook, line and sinker.

Hi Sarah,
It seems Vit D is becoming more and more respected. I try to get mine mostly through sun, cod liver oil or fish oil caps and eating fish.
Thanks for posting the interesting article.

I agree with you, that's why I have a problem when they tout supplements to prevent every thing..A correct diet should always be the first thing stressed for prevention..Exercise and lots of water next..Way too many experts push supplements as the cure-all..Yes I do believe and take supplements, but I do the other more important things first..

Thanks, Sarah.
Well, DUH!
Remember, everybody. The AMA has consistantly opposed the very idea of vitmin supplements for more than 50 years before changing their tune lately.

Thanks, Sarah.
Use a Yahoo search engine and look for conventional medical articles over the passt 20 years proving that "wellness" practices" delay the onset of the diseases of aging that reduce quality of life prior to death.
Let us know what you find.

You don't believe that doing any health related thing will help prevent disease and yet you believe in studies and probabilities? What about "not smoking?" Does that not reduce disease? What about a diet heavy on trans fats and a lifestyle of inactivity? Does that not INCREASE the rate of disease? Sarah, I think you must have had a VERY hard day when you wrote this post. And please don't use the term "alternative" medicine unless you're referring to pharmaceuticals or other 19th century allopathic therapies, because TRADITIONAL medicine has been around for several million years.
