This is VERY interesting. Here's what I noticed in particular:
1) It speaks of metabolic acidosis. My friend who has MS has a young son who went through metabolic acidosis recently. Nobody could figure out the cause. He is only 2 and has just been diagnosed with autism. About being diagnosed with MS in error (due to aspartame and not true MS), how would one know if this is true in their case? My friend's MRI's show the characteristic "spots".

It also said "the phenylalanine in aspartame breaks down the seizure threshold and depletes serotonin, which causes manic depression, panic attacks, rage and violence" That perked up my ears due to my loved ones' struggles with anxiety and panic attacks.

My husband has been a frequent diet soda drinker until he started on the PWFD about a month ago. I don't know how far back he started using aspartame... However my children and I RARELY ever have used it. One of my sons still suffers from the anxiety/panic disorder and I cannot tie it to aspartame. Wish it were that simple in his case.

Seems it would be for the best if nobody ever touched the stuff again. SUGAR is far less harmful!

Hi, Kathy.

I agree with the problems that seem to be associated with asparatme but I do not agree with the mechanisms that they are promoting in this article. MY mechanism is described in the archives about aspartame. Only time will tell whose idea is right. In the meantime, the fact of the effect is enough for me.

Stevia seems to be the answer but, the sugar and aspartame lobby is SO strong they have been able to ban its importation from S.A. where it has been used, safely, for at least 1000 years.

Hope this helps.

Banning stevia importation??

I keep coming across this information that stevia is banned or illegal here in the US. But, is it really? We bought a couple of bottles of liquid stevia since moving to AZ -- at the locoal health food store.

What's up with the ban?

Thanks, Kathy.

The ban was a few years ago. At the time, I was incredulous. The fact that you can now get it tells me that their "ban" could not stand the light of day. However, the likelyhood is that they could put so many onerous regulations on it that it is now MUCH more expensive than it used to be. There is more than one way to skin the competition "cat".

FDA has been against it all the way ! Though it is avaialble here now, it MUST not be offered with information telling how to use it to replace sugar or the like.

Leon,

If it's available, how does one know how to use it, if no information can come aloing with the product?

Hi, Leon.

When you are holding all the cards (even except the truth) there are many ways to skin a cat. When you prove its safety they can, with the stroke of a pen, deny directions. THEN, it costs years and $ to get that changed. So long as it is competition to the monied monopolies, it will be opposed in every unfair way they can think up.
