Hi, Dorsie.

What did his neurologist find??? Tests do no good unles the results are shared with the patient.

This kind of central and peripheral neuropathy is common in drinkers.

Unless he stops immediately (It may already be too late.), this is as good as it gets. In the meantime high doses of balanced B complex ( at least 200 mgm twice a day) and sublingual B12 (if his doc is not willing to show you how to give B12 shots at least 3 times a week) is about all you can do to help.

Let us know what you learn and how he does. Understand that, he MAY already know that this is caused by his drinking and the doc has told him to stop immediately. He just may be not telling you so you will not try to get him to stop. THAT depends on how bad his drinking problem is.

the first 2 yrs after I had my chemical injury I felt like
I was drunk and had lots of CNS and PN symptoms and fell
easily and Drove like a drunk. I heard 2 Drs on NPR
say they were treating drug and alcohol addictions with
large doese of niacin but they didn't give details and
L. Ron Hubbard is supposed to be treating these in a
clinic in Chicago with increasing doses of niacin and
monounsaturated veggie oil. They say they alternate the
items which release chems from fat cells with the oil and
up metabolism and clearing with the niacin. A Dr Randolph
wrote about it.

Thanks, Vince.

ALL causes of chronic neuropathies. I focused on the alcohol since she mentioned he fell into that catagory AND because it would be the "easiest" to get away from.

Since most of these are of multiple causation and each contributing thing aggravates any others.......

Hi,Walt and Vince, Just a note to keep you informed.Hubby was to see Dr. and nothing showed up on MRI'S blood tests, nerve conduction studies, cat scans.Seems you are right, Hubby does have to stop drinking.Dr. did send him for avitamin b 12 blood test, didn't get the results yet.DR.did tell him to start taking one vit.b tablet a day.this doesn't sound like much to me. Hubby is not a casual drinker, he's usually in a drunken stupor most everyday, and is usually in bed at 5;00pm or before. Actually he's just as meam sober as he is drunk, IS THERE ANY HOPE FOR HIM ??Can he quit cold turkey? He's drinking NA beer now,at least 4 or 5 a day.will he eventually start drinking real beer again??Tell me what you think. So far you have diagnosed hubby, right, and with out the tests .I will keep in touchand let you know if his symptoms dissapeaar.Thank you both so very much! DORSIE

Thanks, Dorsie, for the update.

Remember that our present conventional medical tests are too gross to give warning very early in the course of degenerative problems like this. Just think how the profession will see our present expertise in just 50 years.

It is painfully apparent what is going on. Your husband will likely hear what he wants to hear anyhow and will take ANY positive information to heart while totally ignoring anything that says "stop drinking immediately. totally and forever". If his doc doesn't recognize this he likely never went to medical school (grin).

SO, if his doc doesn't know enough to do true liver function tests (a major advance in conventional medicine), rather than the liver death tests he likely is ordering, what can you expect? See the liver archives and you will know more than his doc.

Anyhow, I think your chances of seeing him stop drinking, totally, immediately and forever are remote. If he does not, this is as good as it gets and you are going to have to look at years of tending to an increasingly crippled husband whose self-indulgence is finally coming home to roost. You will just have to love him as he is till he destroys himself.

Remember, this process started when he started drinking heavily. It is only now that his bodymind is saying "ENOUGH ALREADY"!

Good luck! You are going to need it.

Namaste`

Walt

Hi Walt, Hubby has not inproved very much..He still stumbles around, but has not fallen since he quit drinking. He has now started drinking NA beer. He seems to be losing weight, and is extremely weak--I mean very weak...What can be causing this and what can I do to help him? Thanks for all your help, Dorsie

Hi, Dorsie.

If he stays away from ANY alcohol, I am willing to get involved. The first time he breaks over, I am out of here.

Go to the neuropathy archives and get him started on everything suggested there.

Find a good Naturopath (use search engine) and follow her recommendations.

Go to the liver archives and use the nutrients and castor oil packs described there. This is pretty late in the course of things so the sooner you get started the better.

Don't forget the essential fatty acids since I am not sure that they are listed in the above. IF he does his part, he will not need to keep up all this stuff more than a few months.

Let us know how he does.

Walt
