Walt-What is the correct dosage for Nystatin?

Walt,
I have been on Diflucan for treatment of candida. I'd
like to change to Nystatin. I was given a perscription for
Nystatin USP (NYSTAT). Its a powder, it says (150 Million
Units) on the bottle. Do I mix 1/2 tsp. in 4 0z. of water
and just drink it? twice a day. Should I do this right
before meals or on an empty stomach? I'm 110 lbs, 5'4".
43 yrs old. Thanks for any help you can offer. Its appreciated.
Also, do you have tapes that help with SR. I usually do
yoga twice a week. Cheryl

Hi, Cheryl.

See the link below for how to find all the tapes, etc for SR.

See the earlier note, today, in which I described the dose of Nystatin . How many doses of 750,000 units could you get from 150,000,000 units? That is how many doses you have in THAT bottle. The way I figure it, that is about 200 doses and since you need to take 4 a day, it should last you about 50 days. What I would do is put in that many teaspoons (200) of water and then use one teaspoon for my dose as described in my previous note.

Questions?

Hi, Cheryl.

The only way I know is what I said yesterday about putting the water in & measuring it that way. There are 2 notes about this yesterday. Perhaps you have not yet seen them.

Still questions?

Walt,

If you do mix the Nystatin with water, what is the best way to store it in the refrigerator? Since it's a 50 day supply, should it be stored in a glass container? Should the container be sterilized first?

Hi, Sara.

Dark colored glass. Clean but not necessarily sterile container.

Kept in the refrigerator it will easily maintain its potency for as long as that many doses are taken. If one has to take a trip, just pour out the exact number of doses needed for the trip & keep it as cool as reasonable. It will last a few days wthout significant loss of potency unless you leave it in a closed car in the sun---then all bets are off. Hotels will keep things like insulin & medications in their refrigerator & I would take advantage of that.

Keep your main supply safe in your home refrigerator.

Walt
