Hi, I am 29 and I have been plagued by cysts since my teens. I have had three Bartholin's cysts (genital area), two actually popped and left two crater like "holes". The third felt like a hard ball beneath my skin. It bothered me so bad, just it's being there in an embarassing spot. I thought back to how the two previous cysts popped, so I got the not-so-bright idea to take a needle to the new cyst.
I stuck the darn thing with a needle, and nothing came out but blood. A week later it became infected and blew up to mammoth proportions. I could barely walk, and I was in MAJOR PAIN! I took myself to the local ER and they lanced it, and drained the infection out. I felt better and I thought it was on it's way to being gone. NOT! Now a year later, the cyst grows back, and another cyst grew and attached it's self to the existing cyst. I finally got the courage to go back to the ER when it wasn't inflamed. The nurse practitioner was caring and he numbed the area, it hurt like you wouldn't believe. He made a 2 inch cut, and worked on the cysts. It took a long time since the cysts had attached themselves to the skin wall. He scraped the cysts out finally and packed the wound.
They used alot of packing and did not stitch the wound. I was told to go back in two days to have them change my packing. I did so, and I will never forget how bad it hurt when they took that packing out! They then decided to put one stitch to hold a drain in the incision. I was supposed to go and get the drain removed, but it fell out on it's own and I clipped the one stitch and removed it.
Believe it or not, all that was worth it. I feel much better there now.
Now today, I have a cyst on the side of my face, just under the ear lobe, which is growing and becoming infected again. I am going to see a doctor today. Maybe you could tell me something I can do to make these things stop on my face. I look terrible and am even more embarassed now.
Thanks,
Brandi

Hi, Brandi.
For some genetic reason you need more EFAs than the rest of us. The first thing to do is to give the EFAs, on the home page FAQs, a 3-6 month trial. If, by then, the new cysts have stopped, follow the protocol in the sebaceous cyst archives. Within a few years you will have determined your own maintenance dose to prevent new ones for the rest of your life.
Let us know how you do so others with similar problems might avoid what you have been going through.
