Dr. Stoll-CFS and Flax seed oil

Dr. Stoll,
I got worse during the past month. That is why I could not write to the board. I started using Flax seed oil,about 7000 mg per day and it helps me incredibly.I am so surprized and happy about it and I wanted to share this with you.I wonder what is the relationship of CFS with omega-3 deficiency. Was omega-3 deficiency the cause of the illness or the result of it? I am not even using it with cottage cheese. Hope the this help is not only symptomatic and it is helping me to heal.I would like to know your opinion on this.

Flax seed oil is very beneficial, but beware - it should not be used for more than about 3-4 weeks without discontinuing it.

I can't remember exactly where I found it - on one site about liver cleanse I think - but it has to do with the ratio of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. I think our need is 1:2, and flax seed has a ratio of 4:1. The point is if we use it for too long time, we may develop a deficiency in one of the fatty acids.

But if you use it for a while and give it a rest and use it again, you won't have a problem.

Hi, Yildiz.

MY suggestion would be to gradually start reducing the dosage to learn what is your maintenance. All this means is that you need a lot more of these EFAs than the average person and this wil help you in many other ways in your health's future.
