Best Soaps for dry skin?

Posted by oscar on August 09, 2003 at 13:26:59:

Hi my skin is very dryish/tight/dull in complexion. It

does not flake though.

Any recommendations on best soaps to use for this

condition?

Tried Dove but too much cream in it.

not a big fan of body washes.

thanx

Hi Oscar...I learn this in the arab world where the weather is hot and dry most of the time. It's a common practice for people who suffer from dry skin to rub olive oil all over the body and leave it on for about thirty minutes before taking a shower. Really makes your skin feel soft. I think Jergens with lanolin is also a good soap and don't forget to apply body lotion right after you shower before you dry off. Nothing ventured is nothing gained:)

*Drink more water,Take Vitamin E ....and...
I agree. My mother used Olive oil as a moisturizer. She showered and used Cephalen(sp) purchased at most larger food store chains...she used the lotion soap...and only used a BIT of it with a washcloth she said...she then would pour a little Apple Cider vinegar into her bath (if she was bathing) or on a washcloth for a shower, and do a "wipe" down with that - she claimed it was cleansing and changed ph to kill a lot of bacteria that may survive basic soap... then after that, she'd put a small dollop of Olive Oil in her hand, and put it on her elbows, neck, knee's and the remaining residue of it, on her face. She looked radiant even into her 70's.... I use Olive oil as well.

Hi Oscar,
You may find olive oil too thick, and it does have a smell that bothers some people.
You can try sesame oil instead.Leave it on for a while, and then take a shower or bath.I'm using Neem soap, which is made with herbs and cost me $3.00plus.It's working well for me.

Sesame Oil is great too - I forgot about that. I never would have used it, but it was a gift one holiday season, and it was wonderful..it had a light glide... oh and with the Olive Oil, use the lightest version you can get! The greener, traditionally - the smellier! LOL
I used the darker one once and my husband said I smelled like a deli. :)

you need more oil in your diet, not on your skin! I use Total EFA, made by Health From the Sun. I buy the 1000 mg size. Try taking 4 or 5 grams a day and in a month or six weeks, you will feel a difference. You may be able to cut back after you are on that dosage for awhile. I am quite dry and use around 6 grams a day and my skin is now very smooth...
