Omega-3 Fish Oil - How much is too much?

Posted by Ali on August 18, 2003 at 18:09:51:

Dr. Stoll, you replied to an earlier post of mine and suggested
taking 3000 mg of omega-3 fish oil twice per day. I was only able
to find 1000 mg capsules and have been taking 6000 mg per day
total (6 capsules) but the bottle says to only take one tablet daily
which would only be 1000 mg in a day. I just want to make sure
I'm not taking too much.

Also, does the Omeg-3 give you energy?

Thank you,
Ali

Hi, Ali.

Most current research with this is using at least 9000-15,000 milligrams a day. I have found that many people will not get results with less than 6000/day. The manufacturers are CYA until years more of data are available. The pharmaceutical companies should be 1/10th as careful with prescription drug recommendations!

If you are feeling less than well before you take it and you, like most of us, are low in it then yes you will likely notice a boost in energy in a few weeks.

Hope this helps.

Walt
