EFA question

Posted by Martin on October 28, 2003 at 09:21:30:

I am looking at the Omega contents of my flax oil supplement and it shows all 3,6 and 9 groups. So why is it we need Borage and the other oils?

OK, thanks.
But still what does that mean? It is more easily assimilated? Is the flax seed Omeaga 6 useless?

I was hoping Walt would respond. I know there has to be a balance of all the fatty acids, so that's why supplements include all three. Walt has said we probably get the Omega 3's in our diet and concentrate more on the 6's. Flax seed oil has to be converted by the liver and some people aren't quite capable so I've switched to straight EPA fish oil.

Thanks, Sally.

I am sorry for the misunderstanding. Perhaps it is because my knowledge about this has gradually evolved over the past few years.

My current recommendation is to just use the omega 3 fish oils and if any bothersome symptoms are still present in a few months to add a therapeutic trial of omega 6s for a few months.

Hope this helps.

Walt
