Question about good/bad fats

Posted by lovebird [6.15] on May 30, 2004 at 00:29:54:

Hi

Today I was listening to an alternative doctor speaking on good and bad fats.

I think I have a general idea of what good and bad fats do but she mentioned something I never heard which was....that
good fats improve memory, help the brain give signals to the body. She said good oils can help with studies in school.

That is so interesting.

How does the brain work concerning this?

It seems like good fats d so much good for the body

I have cod liver oil, flax oil, olive oil. Are there others that benefit as well?

Thank you
lovebird

see Vince's 5/28 post "Eat more FAT" and the responses to it.
Butter is also healthy. Olive oil or butter are best for cooking, as flax oil shouldn't be heated, Ideally, one should eat fish- the healthiest cultures eat a lot of fish, but I can't stand it, myself.

Hi Lovebird,
One of the best and healthiest fats is avocado oil. You can eat avocado or buy the oil which is wonderful for cooking as it has a very high smoking point and doesn't burn as easily as olive oil if you want to cook at a little higher temerature. The same goes for grapeseed oil.

Hi, Lovebird.

The brain is mostly made up from many different forms of fats and oils--a little known fact. This is one reason why, during the most important formative time of one's brain (from the instant of conception and during the fetal development), just supplementing with essential fatty acids reduces brain chemistry problems of childhood and later while increasing the average IQ by 15 points.

Even the AMA has begun catching on to this essential fact.

Walt

Thank you so much for the information. It is just fascinating to learn.

I increased cod liver oil and olive oil in the past few days and feel better already.

I am so glad your idea to put this board together has produced so much information and good people.

You are getting better and better every day.

I would have to say coconut oil, and I'm surprised that no one else seemed to mention it yet.
It's been the main fat in my diet for years.
