Brittle skin/hang nails above the nail beds

Dr. Stoll,

Why do my 4 kids and I have brittle skin/hang nails on the tops of our fingers above the nail? These hang nails can be really annoying because they can snag onto clothes or they can become infected or the kids will bite on them. Why and what to do to stop this skin breakage and to alleviate them. It seems like no one else has this breakage on top but that some have hangnails on the sides of the nails only.
What to do?

Thanks,
AM

Hi, AM.

Try a therapeutic trial of the essential fatty acids listed on the home page. It will take at least 6 months for a total resolution but you may begin to see benefits in a few months. Once resolved, you will need to begin experimenting with reducing the dosage until you find the life-long maintenance dose each person needs. This will help many other chronic conditions due to happen later with people who need, genetically, more EFAs than the rest of us.

Let us know how you do.

Walt
