Refridgeration of Omega 3 and 6

I wasn't aware that the pill suppliments need to be refridgerated. They have been open now for about a week. Our apartment is consistantly kept at 70 degrees. I've put them in the freezer a few minutes ago after realizing they needed to be chilled.

My question is... Should I assume since the seal has been broken for a week that the oil's have gone rancid, and go buy more. or is the liklyhood of them going back insignificant?

Thanx. Rob

Hi, Rob.

Join the group. I didn't understand this till I was about 40 years old either.

The chances are, in this day and age, that your capsules had vitamin E included as an antioxident and that a week of exposure would not be enough to make a difference.

Rancid fats are SO damaging to human physiology that we have evolved a special aversion to the taste. So, your best indication would be to bite one of them to see if there was an acrid taste. If not, they are OK. If so, you really need to throw them out and learn your lesson (a good one).

Hope this helps.

Walt

What exactly do you mean by SO damaging? I have a large bottle of EFA's (120) capsules. Do you think that they will be okayy in the fridge until I am done with them?
Thanks
Shannon

Hi, Shannon.

IF the first one you taste does not have an acrid taste, the whole bottle is OK.

Walt
