Hi,
I would like to start taking the essential oils recommended on this site as I have had a sebaceous cyst removed and also have acne. I was wondering if you could clear one thing up for me about the dosage. You say to begin with to take 1500mg of omega 6 and 5000mg of omega 3. Say for example I have some fish oil capsules, 1050mg of fish oil per capsule, 400mg of the 1050mg is omega 3 oil. Do I have to take 5000mg of the fish oil, or 5000mg of the omega 3 within the fish oil?
I'm also concerned about pilonidal cysts, as I have never come across them before but now I'm worried I may be more prone to getting one as I suffer from acne and have had a sebaceous cyst on my shoulder removed. How do you know if you have a pilonidal dimple? Are all dimples at the tailbone pilonidal dimples? I have a dimple but there is no hair in it. My parents were never warned I may develop this condition but I understand it is not unusual for this to be overlooked.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Jenny

Hi Jenny,
The mg amount recommended refers to the Omega 3 mg and not the fish oil mg. This will amount to taking SEVERAL capsules, which is why some people (myself included in the beginning) calculate it and think "this CAN'T be right!" But it is!
As far as pilonidal cysts - this is something you would have been born with (a pilonidal dimple with the potential for becoming a cyst). It has nothing at all to do with sebaceous cysts or acne. If you have a dimple there, I don't know what else it could be but a pilonidal dimple, so please read all about it so you know how to prevent it from becoming active and what to do if it does.
For some reason, the pilonidal information is in the archives under the sebaceous cyst heading...
Hope this helps. You could have your doctor take a look.

Thanks very much for answering. I don't know if I'll be able to afford taking 12 capsules a day! Are there capsules available that contain more omega 3 in each one does anyone know?

Have you considered taking the oils in a liquid form? It's much cheaper than capsules.
High doses of Vit. A (natural, from fish oil, for example) are effective for acne. What is usually recommended is 200,000 to 300,000 IU a day for a couple of months, then reduce to about 100,000 IU or so. Works for me. Also worked for Walt's patients. If you are or can become pregnant, be cautious. Although, I am not convinced that Vit. A is as toxic (especially natural form) as MD's would tell you, but I wouldn't take responsibility to recommend that you ignore this possibility. Walt said that his patients took 200,000 IU a day for very long times without problems. I heard the same from other people as well. Perhaps, studies that showed toxicity of Vit. A used a synthetic form. Think of Accutane (a synthetic form of Vit. A) -- toxic. Natural form should help with acne and will be useful for overall health, i.e. resistance to infections. According to Dr. Weston A. Price, some healthy native populations that he studied consumed about 10 times Vit. A the amount people in "civilized" countries did and had much better health. A daily dose recommended by the government is 5,000 IU if I am not mistaken. None of their recommendations seem adequate for optimum health. They recommend only 60 mg of Vit. C, but research and practice shows that much more is very beneficial. This is how I reason to justify to myself taking large doses of Vit. A.

Jenny.
Few people actually need the large dosage I recommend. It is just that to get results for EVERYONE I have purposely set the doses high enough to be sure.
If you want to try half that dose, OK. Just remember that about 25% of people will not see results with that dose. If you are one of those 25%, it will take you a long time to find out if this will help. Once you see results, you can follow the protocol for reducing the dose.

Thanks Dr Stoll,
I'm going to try the recommended dose afterall, it's only for a few months and then I can cut down like you suggest.
This is a fantastic site,
Jenny.
