HI ! I AM A SINGLE, FEMALE, 29 YEAR OLD MOTHER OF 3,. VERY BUSY AND ACTIVE PARENT. I WAS DIAGNOSE WITH OS-GOOD AT AN EARLY AGE OF 13.. THE DOCTOR SAID THAT IT WOULD PASS WITH PUBERTY. Well, IT SURE HASN'T, I HAVE A KNOT ON MY LEFT KNEE THE SIZE OF A GOLF BALL, IT IS VERY TENDER AND SORE ALL THE TIME. IT ISN'T GOING AWAY. I HAVE STRUGGLED WITH THE PAIN AND JUST TRY TO KEEP GOING. WHAT TYPE OF DOCTOR DO I SEE WHEN I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF THE PAIN. I CANT GET ON MY KNEES OR EVER EVER HAVE ANYTHING HIT IT. CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME ADVISE?

Hi, Tracy.
All caps is hard on the eyes and hard to read.
You need an orthopedist and will need surgery.
Did you not get good advice when this was first diagnosed, or did you just not take it seriously? The latter is more common than you might think! ACTUALLY the former is pretty common, too, now that I think about it!

Thanks, Tracy.
I agree that is no longer pain from OS. It is pain from the irregular closure of the epiphysis (growth center) due to improper protection during the process of growth. This causes the calcium deposit--which is what needs to be removed.
THEN, your leg will have to be treated just as though you had a fracture since the tendon with the most pull in the body is the patellar tendon (possibly second only to the achilles) and any use of it will be trying it's best to pull off the fragment (attaching it to the tibia) produced by the removal of the calcium.
Hope this helps. You really should get a pictorial presentation from your surgeon before the surgery.
Walt
