I've Had OSD Ever Since I Was 13, I Got It From "Too Much Tennis And Basketball" My Doctor Says. He Said That I Shouldn't Play Any Sports Except Perhaps Swimming For A Couple Of Years...

Well, I'm Going To Enter High School Soon, And I've Been Playing Tennis All Summer (My Mom Said I Can) I Don't Feel Any Pain Or Anything, Just some Pressure In The Knee Once In A While. I Really Need To Make The Tennis Team, And My Mom Said I Could Play, But...I Still See This Awful Looking Bump Under My Knee And It Looks Gross.

Does The Bump Thing Mean I Shouldn't Play Sports Still!? OR Is It Supposed To Stay There For The Rest Of My Life?

My Father Also Has OSD On Both Knees. (Or Is It He Used Too?) He Still Has Both Bumps, Yet Feels No Pain While Playing Sports. (He Played Soccer From Age 7 Through College) His Doctor Said He Could Still Play Sports And All, BlahBlah. (Oh!!! I Forgot To Mention I Only Have It In My Right Knee) So...The Main Questions Are: Can I Play Tennis And Basketball Now? And Can I Get Rid Of this Bump In Any Way Other Than Surgery?

Oh...And My Doctor Never Put Me In A Cast Or Anything...It Was Just Basically "No Tennis For A Least A Year And A Half!"

Hi, Sara.

Your doc gave you bad advice. It may not be too late to do anything about it now.

This condition must be treated by avoiding exercise--except for swimming--until growth stops (NOT a "couple of years" for a 13 year old!).

Read the archives about this condition. Boys can get away with more because most of them do not care what their legs look like. Women frequently do!

Let us know what you learn.

Walt
