sleep apnea

I was just surfing the web, found this site and questions about sleep apnea. A young woman asked about a CPAP machine vs. SR for her boyfriend.

I have been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. At different times in my life I have practised meditation, watched my diet, etc. Feeling crummy continued. Finally I was referred to a sleep doctor. CPAP corrects the MECHANICAL problem my body has that interfers with relaxing, healthy sleep.

I am not a doctor, but I do not believe that any amount of CONCIOUS relaxation will overcome the mechanical problem my body has when I am asleep. Yes, it will reverse many effects of stress, but it cannot increase REM sleep if I have to "awaken" myself every minute (my score was 60/hour) to make myself breathe.

Life style changes MAY help sleep apnea. But NOT using a CPAP machine (which only forces air down your throuat) is like trying drive a car without your glasses, in my opinion. CPAP is only air, no medicines, no side effects. And being on it three weeks has given me enough rest to begin getting active, getting exercise and being optimistic again!

Landra, in my opinion, any mechanical problem with your body should be addressed nutritionally for any kind of lasting results.

Thanks, Landra.

Once you have practiced "certified" skilled relaxation twice a day for a year, without results, I will accept your suggestion that this does not work for YOU. NOTHING works for everyone.

Let us know if you ever do it.

Walt
