Hi, I am a 16 year old boy, I have had Osgood Schlatters disease for about 2-3 years now, and with little help from my parents or my doctor, I've been trying to rid myself of it. At first I thought it was a bone or something popped out of place, so i tried hitting the swollen area with objects to try and pop it back into place. Now that I know what it is, I think this was a very bad idea. This probably is partly why I've had this condition for so long, anyways the reason I'm writing this is because my friend heard of a new medicine using sugar water or something (he doesn't remember the name he said it may have started with a C) and its given in a shot. It does something like, make the area swell and force it to grow or something like that, I'm not sure but he said to ask someone about it. Do you have any idea what this may be, or if it would help with my situation?

Might your friend be referring to Prolotherapy?

Hi, Jason.
You are right: your repeated trauma to the area did not help.
Anything that might speed the closure of this partially separated epiphysis would speed up it's resolution. Of course that would also stunt the growth of that bone and would lose the person as much as a few inches of final height. This (tibia) is one of the "long bones" that only grow while the epiphysis is "open".
ANY ethical physician, that would offer treatment like this, has an obligation to fully inform the patient of the likely consequences.
Hope this helps.

Yes, I looked up Prolotherapy, that seems to be what he was talking about. I was wondering if this would help with Osgood Schlatters, after being told not much more than "it'll go away with time" and seeing no improvement for the past 3 years, I'm looking for another solution. If this will not help my case, do you know of any other treatments or ANYTHING that will make it go away? I'm looking for any kind of help I can get with this.
