Hi,
I just received my bottle of Metagenics Cal-Apatite with boron and it says to take up to six a day. I was taking Bio-San's Calcium Hydroyapatite without boron (one a day which has 1000mg. Why is Cal-Apatite better, and can I add boron to the Bio-San? I am asking because one a day sounds better than up to six and it is less costly (Bio-San). So, my question is why is Metagenics the one recommended? Thank you very much.maryann

Hi maryann,
Any more than 500 mg of calcium at one time cannot be absorbed by your body - the rest goes to waste. That is why Metagenics brand says to take up to six tablets a day, which should be at least two hours apart. It has 400mg of calcium in two tablets. If you are not post-menopausal, you do not need to take that much unless your doctor has advised you to or unless you never eat calcium in your diet (which you should)(I think 4 tablets a day is recommended for people with normal bone density. I don't know anything about Bio-San, but you can compare the two now that you have both. Maybe someone else knows more. Hope this helps some. Raisa

Hi, maryann.
In MY opinion, taking one of the metagenics would do you exactly the same good as the one a day Bio-San--except that the boron is a catalyst that helps the hydroxyapatite actually become bone so you would have to also take the boron with the Bio-San.
Of course, it is essential that the hydroxyapatite be produced very carefully so as to not damage the delicate enzymes present in living bone. Since I am not familiar with how Bio-San is produced.......
Hope this helps.
