Well, bone loss is a complicated issue because there are many factors that affect bone loss:
1. Age
2. Exercise status
3. Mineral status in the body
4. Hormone status
5. The presence of refined foods and hydrogenated oils in the body
6. The ingestion of isolated protein supplements
7. genetic influences
We can do something about all of these things except number's 1 and 7.
I suggest getting a saliva hormone panel to uncover possible hormone imbalances or deficiencies. Then, depending the on results, you should be treated depending on the results but only using natural means to balance the hormones.
Next, I recommend buying the book "Nourishing Traditions" by Sally Fallon and learn the book inside and out. Learn to eat so that you excrete as little calcium as possible and take in the necessary nutrients that help glue calcium into the bones. Any refined food, isolated vitamin or drug, isolated protein powder, or hydrongenated fat will contribute to more calcium being excreted and will only cause further bone loss.
A good whole food mineral supplement, such as PERFECT FOOD, can supply you with minerals in an easy-to-digest form that will help absorb the calcium you take in from foods. And by the way, get rid of all pastuerized milk products in your diet. If you can get raw milk, feel free but pasteurized milk products cause bone loss, not bone building. Perfect Food can be purchased at www.crohns.net. Remember, calcium is not the only mineral needed for bone building. You need vitamin D, magnesium, silica, boron, zinc and nutrients that help THESE co-factors get aborbed. It's very difficult to do that with isolated supplements. Whole foods are the very best sources of these nutrients and their co-factors and are found in a natural substrate within the food. Calcium Hydroxite is the best calcium for bone loss.
Finally, you need weight-bearing exercise such as weight-lifting. Walking is good but it won't build bone. You need resistance in order to build bone. Get a personal trainer and have him/her teach you how to lift weights properly.
These are my very best suggestions for getting bone loss under control. Once you read the book, let me know if you still have questions.
