Bone density results-Calcium dosage?

Posted by Bonnie [5333.2512] on March 17, 2006 at 15:12:01:

Hello, I am interested in preventing osteoporosis. I am a 59 year old female on Thyroid hormones.
I have a maternal family history of osteoporosis. My bone test results are:
T-score for the lumbar (L1 through L4) is: -1.2
T-score for the femoral neck is: -2.1
T-score for the greater trochanter is: -1.6
T-score for the total hip is: -1.6
I am active and exercise daily. I have purchased Cal apatite with boron. Three tablets contain 1500 mg MCHC and 300mcg of boron. How many tablets should I take daily? Thank you so much for your help.

Bonnie,

Without the normals for these resulte, they are meaningless to me. They should be printed on the same report as the results.

Walt

Sorry to leave out information. This was my first bone test, I hope I'm sending you the info you need now. If this is not enough info I hope you'll let me try again. The info on my results after the 'norms' listed below are three pages long, I'm trying to be brief for you.My scores were:
T-score for the lumbar (L1 through L4) is: -1.2
T-score for the femoral neck is: -2.1
T-score for the greater trochanter is: -1.6
T-score for the total hip is: -1.6

T-scores of 0 to -1.0 are considered normal.
T-scores of -1.0 to -2.4 are osteopenic.
T-scores of -2.5 or less are diagnostic of osteoporosis.

Impression from this scan: Osteopenia of the hip and lumbar spine. Thanks. I appreciate all you do.

Thanks, Bonnie.

This means to me that you still can reverse this but it will take about 2 years to see a difference and probably 5 years to get back to normal. Remember: the natural progression of this would be that in 2 years this would probably be worse or unchanged.

I would take at least 3000 milligrams of hydroxyapatite with boron twice a day AND do underwater aerobics at least 3 times a week. Be very careful about falls.

Let us know your readings in 2 years and also share with us the expression of surprise on your doc's face when he sees them.

Walt
