I know that this site has been a God send for me in trying to figure out the cause of perioral dermatitis (which I have had for over 10 years). I have always believed that this dermatitis (because of the location on the face) was due to a food or beverage allergy and have spent a long time keeping a food and symptom diary. Finally, I am symptom free! The triggers for me are chicken, eggs and coca cola. While these items may seem unrelated, I have always had coca cola with my breakfast (unhealthy, I know) and with all my dinners. Chicken is easily 1/2 or the proten I consume on a weekly basis; often it is even more than that as I don't regularly eat red meat. I have also noticed a dramatic improvement in some mild body eczema and a clearing of annoying and painful bumps on my scalp. I hope that this information will be helpful to those who are suffering with these types of conditions. FYI, symptom improvement should be noticeable within a few days subsequent to eliminating the offending food. Good luck!

Do you know what is causing you to be allergic to these things in the first place?

There were a lot of things going on in my personal life that were extremely stressful. I was also trying to be a vegetarian (hence, poultry was in each meal daily). During this time my husband and I moved out of state (adding 1 hour to my 45 minute commute) and purchased a new home. I took on a very tough job and shortly thereafter my office began extensive construction right in my general area. I also purchased two large birds and later had to put pestesides throughout the house (in the walls) to handle a mouse problem brought on by the bird food in their cages. I had also begun working on a privite pilot's license. The perioral dermatitis came on first, then acne, then fibromyalgia and finally bursitis and sciatica. I suppose this was my body's idea of rebelling from all the stress. I have to say it did a good job of it too; my life came to a virtual halt for over a year. I feel a great deal better now but it took ten years to get there. I hope this information will help others to look at the "big picture" when addressing health problems.
