For over 3 months I was suffering from something that was later on diagnosed as Peri-Oral Dermatitis. Being in the customer service industry, I was exposed to people all the time. Having this noticable skin irritation made me lose my confidence in being in front of people and it also affected my social life.
The rash started as a tiny area under my nose which later on turned red and spread around my lips almost out to my cheeks. It had looked like I had an irritation from waxing because my skin was red, spotty, and raised in areas more than others.
I am proud to say however that I am finally cured! I initially went to a physician who prescribed to me every topical cream that existed including dermatop, loprox, elocom and finally gave me tetracycline which I stopped after 2 weeks because I saw no improvement. After 2 months, I still wasn't cured and I was anxious and desperate to get better. I lost hope and thought that this disease could never be cured. I was then referred to a dermatologist who prescribed to me hydro-cortisone cream which stripped away at my skin and made my condition even worse.
After reading the archives on this website, I gathered a list of the things I could try to get better because by this time I lost confidence in my physician and dermatologist.
Here's what I did:
1) I switched toothpaste and used one without SLS
2) I switched shampoos and soaps and used ones without SLS
3) I decreased my sugar intake
4) I stayed away from fatty, fried, or processed foods
5) I increased my water intake
6) I applied TEA TREE OIL to my face every day, 2 times a
day for the first week and every other day the second
week
7) I applied CALENDULA CREAM every day before I went to
sleep at night
8) I tried to avoid stress as much as possible and
went to the gym at least 2-3 times a week
After following these 8 steps, I was cured within 2 weeks! I couldn't believe it. I have been dermatitis-free now for over 1 month. I encourage those who have this condition to try these steps because it definitely worked for me...thanks to this website!

Congratulations, Karen!
It's so great to hear another example of how alternative therapies do the job when conventional medicine doesn't!
Best wishes,

Great job! Can you tell me where to find SLS free shampoos and conditioners for the hair? And possibly recommend some good ones? I have the toothpaste but it never occured to me that SLS may be the cause of my ongoing scalp "acne". THANKS!

Good for you. I am having a bit of trouble with POD myself, to say the least. However when I used 100% pure Tea Tree Oil my skin about burned off and then I really had a painful mess. I just wanted to share that Burts Bees has all SLS free products, including toothepaste, facial cleansers, toners, moisturizers, soaps and a shampoo bar, that are either 100% natural or very close to it. They even carry an awesome baby line. They are very economical and you can find them on the Internet or at most GNC stores. I've had hypersensitive skin problems my whole life and I'm even allergic to the products that are made for people with serious skin sensitivities--and I am not allergic to one of their products and I've tried almost all of them. They have saved me!
