Perioral Dermatitis TESTIMONIAL / QUICK FIX

I am a 28 year old male who has been suffering from Perioral Dermatitis for several years - possibly as many as 16 years, since sixth grade. The past several years have been particularly troubling, though - as the dermatitis finally made its way to my chin and formed the "full ring" around my mouth. Just this week I started doing some research, and not until a few short days ago did I discover what Perioral Dermatitis actually was. I scheduled an appointment with a dermatologist, but then decided to postpone it after finding this website. The results have been outstanding. Here's what I did:

1) I changed my toothpaste. While I thought I was brushing smart, my Nature's Gate Fluoride-Free toothpaste had SLS, so I decided that's where I should start. I replaced it with JASON Cinnamon Mint Powersmile, and the results were immediate and amazing. I didn't think much of it, but my skin was always the 'calmest' in the morning when I woke up, and flared up after I brushed my teeth and took a shower. I just assumed the dry skin was related to the shower water, but it was the toothpaste all the way. I can't believe SLS was causing this all these years!

2) The other product I picked up was Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil Skin Ointment. It's Sweet Almond Oil, Organic Tea Tree Oil, Jojoba Oil, Calendula Extract, Lavender Oil, and Beeswax. I picked it up at Whole Foods, and it was about 8 dollars for 30mL - and worth every penny. I bought it for both the Tea Tree Oil as well as the Calendula - both products I read about on this website. A very light application is all that is necessary, and its working like a charm. Its a little greasy, but doesn't lead to dry skin like Tea Tree Extract, and its easy to apply. I highly recommend it!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to post their personal stories regarding this troubling skin condition, as well as Dr. Stoll for hosting this thread. Good luck everyone!

Thanks, Tim, and congratulations.

Remember, now, that this susceptibility is related to a susceptibility for LGS and you can keep this from coming back.
