I visited a dermatologist 2 months ago for what looked to me like bad acne concentrated in 2 places below my mouth. It was diagnosed as peri-oral dermatitis. I took docycycline for a month with no change. Then my dermatologist switched me to Augmentin. The area has lightened up a bit, but it's definitely still there. I have never had any acne/skin problems in the past. I guess I am just wondering if I should get a second opinion, since it's been 2 months and the medicine isn't really working.

Have you looked at the archives about "Perleche & Perioral Dermatitis"?

I have looked at the archives as well as many other web sites with information on peri-oral dermatitis. They all seem to give different information. The other thing that stumps me is that mine doesn't look like the photos I've seen of other people with the condition. Mine just looks like tiny acne scars concentrated together. There is no puss and it is not bubbly or even raised at all. It's very light, but you can still see it. I just want it to go away.

Hi, Abby.
The reason there are so many different approaches is because people are so different. Their genetic structure determines what will cause this outcome in THEM. There will NEVER be one single solution to this problem.
SO, until you have tried them all you will not know what will work for you. THe only way I know of to shortcut that approach is by letting the wisdom of your bodymind do the sorting for you: by practicing serious wellness.
Let us know how you do.
Walt
