Hi Dr. Stoll,
I have searched your site and read the archives on perioral dermatitis, however a few questions still remain for me. I have been battling it off and on for about 2 years now. My case is not horrible, however it is persistant. I switched dermatologists back in Sep 2000, and she put me on Triaz 6% cleanser(i also have a little acne), klaron 10% lotion, and noritate 1% cream. She also prescribed Doxycycline mono which i took for about 2 months (from Sep. to Nov.). I saw dramatic improvement. However, the perioral dermatitis was still there a little. So, my dermatologist suggested i continue using the Triaz once a day and the klaron and noritate twice a day (i put the klaron on first and then the noritate on top of it) for a month, and then try and ween myself off of them and use each once a day. I did this, but the perioral dermatitis began to get worse within two weeks. I saw my dermatologist again about it (now it was Jan 2001) and she said to go back to using the two prescriptions twice a day. So now (Apr 6 2001) I am using the Triaz once a day (at night) and the klaron and noritate twice a day. The perioral dermatitis is not horrible, but it is still there (light pink spots on my chin below the corners of my mouth and some little bumps off to the right and left sides above my lips and below my nose). I just ordered and recieved the SLS free toothpaste you suggest and will begin using it today. These are my questions:
Should I continue to use the Triaz, Klaron and Noritate the same as i have been doing now that i am going to start using the SLS free toothpaste? Or should i begin to 'ween' myself off them or go cold turkey?
I use make-up, including foundation (the brand is Benefit), but i do not put foundation on my chin or above my lips where the perioral dermatitis is located, do i have to stop wearing it? (I really would hate to not wear the foundation-if the SLS toothpaste is my problem, now that i am switching to SLS free toothpaste will I still see results even if i continue wearing the foundation?)Also, my skin is very dry from the Triaz, and I use Clinique moisturizer to moisturize it (I do not put it directly on the parts of my chin and face where the Perioral dermatitis is, however i do put it on the surrounding areas, like on my chin where there is no pinkness or bumps- because the skin is so dry) Should I stop using this as well? If I need to stop wearing the foundation and moisturizer, is there a safe brand of make-up or skin care products i can try?
Finally, I have recently switched soaps from Clinique to Pure and Natural (which i already used on the rest of my body and is SLS free). Do I also need to find an SLS free shampoo, or should the toothpaste do the trick if my problem is the sls?
Thank you SOOO very much Dr. Stoll. I appreciate your reading my very long winded post and your taking the time to reply. (That goes for anyone else who has any thoughts or ideas too- Thank you!!!)

Sorry to take up more time, but I did have one more question which i previously forgot to ask-
If I stay on the klaron and or noritate, is it possible that over time the medications will loose their potency/my skin will become used to them, and they will no longer work as well/at all?
Thank you so much again!!!

Hi, Allie.
Now you have several layers of black tape over the warning lights of your dashboard and the light is STILL shining through.
How are you doing with your serious wellness program?
POD is one of the warnings of LGS.

Allie, I don't know if you are new to the board but when Dr. Stoll asks you if you have a serious wellness program, (as he often does), it's because these chronic conditions are produced because something isn't working right in the functioning of your body. He mentions leaky gut very often because it has a huge impact on our health since what we put in it is what is keeping us alive. The intricate balance can be devastated by processed foods we take in and antibiotics, etc. And then it manifests itself by an assortment of ailments. So you can see why Dr. Stoll tells us to really manage our health intelligently because once the problems begin, you can go through an endless maze of treatments. I don't know what you have learned already, but checking the Topics, leaky gut, CRS, and SR (skilled relaxation) would give you a clue as to what creates most of our problems.
