Peeling lips-- Chelitis???

Posted by

For the Doctor:

For about 6 weeks now my entire mouth has been peeling... is this "Chelitis"?

Chapstick does not help!!

Is the best treatment still a 1 percent cortisone ointment,
and vaseline for moisture?

Are my lipsticks now contaminated???

Thank you in advance...

Stevee

Hi, Stevee.

Since this is "your whole mouth" this cannot be chelitis which only involves the lips. "Contamination" has nothing to do with this.

The whole mouth thing is an indication of LGS.

I've had chapped peeling lips for years and have mentioned this many times on the board, but nobody has ever said "chelitis", I've never even heard of it and there's no info on this site. Can someone please tell me what it is and what causes it and what to do for it?

I found the term "chelitis" from another post on this site as I surfed for this annoying symptom..
I didn't know what it was called either.
I tried the 1percent hydrocortisone + vaseline during the day for moisture. After two days it seems to be helping.
You might want to try this also.

Good luck.

Thank you for your prompt response Doctor Stoll.
However,I was remiss in my description of my symptoms..
it IS just my lips that are peeling.

For the past 2 days I have been using the hydrocortisone 1 percent, and vaseline, and it seems to be helping.

I remember that I have been applying perscription alpha hydroxy to my face (that I got from my dermatologist... I inadvertantly put in on my lips too!! Could this have been what started the problem??? I am very careful not to get it on my lips now!!

Thanks in advance!

kmd, go to a medical website, like medicinenet.com, they usually have medical conditions A-Z, I'm sure you can find it somewhere.

Thanks, but I went to that site and they didn't have it. As an aside, they also didn't have Leaky Gut Syndrome, one day soon I hope the strictly conventional physicians will add this to their vocabulary.

I went to Webmd.com and found an explalnation, but I don't like part of what it says...

First it said that chelitis is caused by "prolonged exposure to ultra violet rays..." (By prolonged can that mean a cumulative thing?).
I never hang out in the sun anymore, but I sure did 20 years ago...)

It followed by saying the condition
"could be Pre-Malignant"!!
I don't know what to think now.

Maybe we should all get to a dermatologist ASAP.

On the good side, putting the 1 percent hydrocortisone cream on my lips in the morning and evening, plus vaseline throughout the day IS helping me.

-----This is what Dr. Sholl recommended to someone else on his site for this condition..

Good luck to all.

Stevee

Thanks, Stevee.

The stuff that you inadvertantly put on your lips could easily have been the trigger that caused this. The instructions should have warned you about that very thing.

IF that is the cause the cortisome/vaseline stuff you are using will likely resolve the problem IF you don't let it happen again.

IF there are other contributing causes, it will be back. In that event, write again.
