Reaction to poison ivy

Posted by CeCe on August 19, 2002 at 21:25:44:

I have a friend who had an allergic reaction to poison ivy or one of those kinds of poisonous leaves. She is now on her third round of prednisone because each time she stops it, the rash returns. She is having problems sleeping and is beginning to experience mental confusion and frustration. I feel sure those are some of the side effects of prednisone. Can you give me some suggestions for her to help relieve her of the rash so that she can discontinue the prednisone. She is getting desperate!!

Hi, CeCe.

Your friend in in trouble.

In my opinion, her doc obviously did the "one size fits all" treatment and THEN, when it recurred, did not have the sense to see that he was in trouble with the condition--so he repeated it. If she had had at least double the above dose and it had been kept up for 2 weeks the first time (no danger at all with this kind of short term treatment with cortisone) this problem would be over. Now she runs the risk of a "serum sickness" response to the problem as well as that of long term cortisone treatment.

One of the definitions of insanity is when the individual keeps repeating the same thing, over and over, even though it does not work.

It may not be too late to use Rhus Tox (the homeopathic preparation for poison ivy).

She could end up in the hospital with this.

Let us know how she does.

Walt

My husband had a bad reaction to poison ivy and we read the archives on this site. This helped us figure out he was re-infecting himself from his shoes. Check all animals and clothing and make sure they are washed with a good detergent and see if this helps.
Bless you
