Andrew, not sure about sterility (doubt it), but you're about to be one miserable human being for the next few weeks! Dr. Stoll might disagree with me, but having had this in ALL the wrong places myself (face, eyes, genitals) personally I'd visit the clinic for a steroid injection. I would also apply pure aloe vera gel, the cold-pressed kind, to all affected areas. It's anti-microbial and has a very soothing effect on blistered skin. To help mitigate the strain on your liver from the steroid, you can take a few hundred mgs. of lipoic acid and extra vitamin C each day to offset the stress and assist the healing. If the good doctor provides a better prescription, I defer to his recommendation!

I'd be trying a little cayenne and salt water on it. Bet
it would be gone fast or i would.

Probably add a little borax to the cayenne/salt water.

Hi Andrew,
Ah yes it can get so miserable. Peters answer was so great!
There is a soap (names escapes me) you can get at any healthfood store just for that. You can also use bentenite clay and it drys up the infected areas and it clears up fast. There are several different things you will find at healthfood stores these days for poisen ivy or poisen oak.
Take Care

Thanks, Peter.

If I had it in those places I would use steroids as well. BUT, I would just take oral prednisone at an adequate dose of at least 80 milligrams a day to start with; gradually decreasing doses to zero in about 2 weeks. That would be more effective than any injection and cost about 1/10th as much with less risk.

Rhus Tox can be just as effective in some people.

Your other advice is right on as well!

Hope Andrew reads this and the archives too.

Namaste`

Thanks, Kimberly.

By far the best thing is to learn exactly what poison ivy looks like and don't go near it. IF one still gets touched by it to be hyperaware that one was exposed and rub crushed jewel weed on the area (Jewel weed grows EVERYWHERE that any poison ivy plant is.) THEN, as soon as reasonably posible, to wash the area with strong soap and water to remove the poison ivy oil.

Be sure to remember that IF your skin touched it your shoes and clothiing did too and that THEY can now cause the rash if THEY touch your skin. They must be washed a couple of times in harsh laundry detergent to be safe (depending on how sensitive one is to the contact).

Finally, don't forget the dog (or cat)! Dogs don't get the reaction but they get the oil all over them & it has to be neutralized by either the jewel weed OR a couple of washings before the susceptible person plays with her.

If all else fails, Rhus Tox can be very effective for some people and prednisone, in adequate doses, can be a miracle.

Hope this helps.

Walt
