Dear Dr. Stoll,
Again, thank you for your wonderful website. I am a nurse anesthetist, and have been saturated with conventional medicine for the past 15 years. However, the information that I have gathered over the past year from your site has been the saving grace for my health. Thank you. I have been taking vitamins, magnesium, doing several intestinal cleanses from CleanseSmart, and feel so much better. I am looking for Airola's book, "Every Woman's Book", but have had some difficulty obtaining it. I will follow it to the letter when I get it. I have scoured the pregnancy and autism archives, but I do have a question. My first son is very healthy, and almost 4 years old. My second son is 2and a half, and is being treated by Dr. Mary Megson for mild autism. We have seen really positive results. But I'm worried about having another child. I believe that any genetic testing will reveal inconclusive results regarding genetic causes for autism. So I do not really want to proceed with that. As I understand it, Megson's theory is genetic component with environmental assault (vaccinations), that cause autism. But I would like to have a third child. If I follow Airola's advice and continue with all my vitamins, and magnesium, do you think I can have a child without autism???? Thank you , Julie

The book is out of print, but on the amazon.com you can buy used copies from other sellers.

Thanks, Julie.
As a Nurse Anesthetist, you have been exposed to a lot of chemicals, many of which accumulate and stay in the body. Not only are you at risk of bladder cancer but for birth defects--directly proportional to how many years you have been doing this.
I would suggest not only doing what Airola says but also vastly improving your liver detoxification ability. Stuff like the information in the liver archives.
Let us know what you learn. I submit that your first child happened before you had a high enough level in your body to cause problems, the second one's problem is very likely due to the gradually increasing levels as you progressed in your profession and now, your infertility is a further extension of that accumulation.
All research is now coming to recognize this problem. This IS reversable once you know about it.
Let us know how you do.
Walt

Dear Dr. Stoll,
Thank you so much for your prompt response. It is most appreciated. I had not thought about the likelihood of infertility at this point, since we are not actively trying to get pregnant. Your response has put a new twist on my thinking, and I get the point about toxicity, buildup, etc. and have been reading about detoxification procedures. If I understand you correctly, it is my exposure to anesthetic chemicals that contributed to my son's autism?? Also, if I thouroughly detoxify, do I need to worry about genetic causes of autism? Also, do any of our knowledgable readers have experience with autism in their families? If so, have you noticed a hereditary component there? I am very concerned about having another child with autism, and want to eliminate as much risk as possible.

Hi,Julie.
It certainly is possible although it is certain that nurse anesthetists are not the only people with autistic children. I would look at it as an additional burden on whatever is the main cause of autism.
My bet is that autism will eventually be found to be a multifactorial condition in a genetically susceptible individual.
Hope this helps.

Hi Julie,
I don't know a lot about autism but read an article recently about someone whose child was diagnosed with it. After taking the child off wheat and dairy, the autism reversed itself and the child returned to be totally normal. Hope this helps.
Best wishes,
Happygal

Are you saying that if its in your family, you are more likely to have a child with autism ? Its not in my family at all as far back as I know.
Or do you just have to have a lot of toxins in your body to increase your chances of this happening?
Also another question about Paavo's book. He recommends vegetarianism but from what I have read here on your site from others, it seems this is not such a good idea for the developing foetus as you are not getting the optimum nutrition without ANY meat in your diet whilst pregnant.

Dear Monifa,
I have been reading a lot about autism lately, so I thought I would try to help answer one of your questions. According to the literature, if you have one child with autism, you are more likely to have a second with autism as compared to others. So, they say there is a genetic link. However, you may have a genetic predisposition for autism and not realize it unless the condition is unleashed by a series of events that take place. The theory (which I happen to believe) includes something like vaccination exposure at a young age, and damage from something in the vaccine like thimerosal (mercury), pertussis vaccine, or MMR. The thimerosal causes direct cerebral insult, while the pertussis or MMR has a deleterious effect on the gut(LGS), which in turn causes blockage of pathways in the brain. Foods like wheat and dairy can also further exacerbate the damage in the gut causing more problems for the autistic individual. This is absolutely incredible, considering the number of vaccines that are "required" for our children. I just happen to think that we are being poisoned. My child certainly has been. But by all means do not suggest such an outlandish theory to the "medical community." My son's doctor is Mary Megson, who happens to be a proponent of this theory, and there is not a "doctor" in Richmond that will so much as speak to her. Ah, I knew I liked her for a reason.
As for the vegetarianism in pregnancy, I think that you must be very careful. To prevent things like pre-eclampsia, you must take magnesium, and get enough protein in your diet, upwards of 100 grams. If you can do this and still be a vegetarian, maybe it would be okay. I would look at this a little further, though. Look at the book, Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon or check out the Weston A. Price Foundation.
