My pregant daughter has O negative blood and her doctor recently discussed with her about getting this injection. Does anyone have any info / opinions about it?

It depends upon the blood type of the baby. If he/she is born with 0-, then she does not need a shot. If the child is born with positive blood, then she'll need it because of the antibodies that remain in her blood. If she does not get the shot, then any child born after this child will have serious problems. Not sure what kind. I have 0- and my husband at the time had B+. My first child was born with B+, so I had to have a shot. My second (and last) child was born with 0-, so I didn't have the shot.
Hope this helps.

My daughter told me that this injection contains among other things, mercury. She is concerned about the health affects of it on her and the baby, as the doctor wants to give her this injection in the 7th month of pregnancy. any thoughts?

How does he know the blood type of the baby? She won't need it if he/she's got negative blood. My shot was given a couple of days after the birth of my son. What's his reason for giving it while still pregnant? Doesn't make sense to me. To my knowledge, I had no adverse affects from the shot. I have no clue what was in it. This was 30 years ago and my second child, born 3 years later was perfectly healthy. If I were your daughter, I would not take the shot until I knew the blood type of the baby first. Do you know the blood type of the father?
Good luck.
