prolapsed uterus

Posted by Aimee on October 26, 1998 at 21:55:36:

Dr. Stoll, what do you know about prolapsed uterus? When I had a tubal ligation 4 1/2 years ago, my ob/gyn at the time casually mentioned that my uterus was tipped backwards and did I know how to do Kegels. He didn't say anything else. It hasn't really bothered me at all except an aching pressure in my vagina about one day a month during my period. Now all of a sudden, it gets pushed on during intercourse and this hurts like hell! And all day afterward it aches. Is there anything non-surgical that I can do? My book on herbs recommends some herbal douches that I thought I would try. Thanks for any suggestions.(Also, do you know what causes a prolapsed uterus? My mother has the same problem.) Aimee

Dear Aimee,

You call this a "prolapsed uterus" but you are describing a "retroflexed uterus". A retroflexed uterus is resolvable by positional exercises combined with regular orgasm and skilled relaxation practices. A prolapsed uterus can be helped the same way but usually needs surgery to resolve it.

Which do you really have? Your GYN knows.

Walt

Dr. Stoll, I'm not really sure which one I have. My gyn did not use either term. I'll have to find out. Do you know where I can find info on the exercises? Do Kegels help? The orgasm and skilled relaxation parts are pretty much taken care of:-) Thanks, Aimee

Dear Aimee,

Go to the library & ask the reference librarian for saggital pictures of malposition of the uterus. You will soon see which you have.

THEN, let me know.

Walt
