For Walt et al - Your Best Advice for Pregnancy...

Posted by Mama Maria [4.10] on September 11, 2004 at 01:17:49:

Hi Walt et al

Walt I highly value your opinion on this, so here goes.

I want to start a family within the next month or so.

what is themost important thing IYHO, I can do for the health of my child? Anything that you can add to my current health plan would be great

1. I eat PWFD - follow basic rules, and very rarely pig out on junk food. Rarely eat any sugar. since following your diet plan walt, and working with a naturopath, my health has improved so much. Most of my allergies are gone, depression all gone, skin probs gone, energy much better, skin is clear, feell happier all round, scalp probs 95% better. can eat foods that previously could not without a reaction. Can even eat chocolate and dairy, now without a problem which wasnt the case before the diet and health plan.

2. Meditate IRRegularly.

3. Dont exercise, but would like to get fit for pregnancy, as I think that could help with labour????

Also, when my sister wanted to get pregant they wanted a boy, so her hubbie stopped exercising and started eating foods that r recommended for conceiving a boy. And hey presto! they have a boy. so many sportsmen have female children.

Okay, thanks so much, folks!

Hi Mama,

I've often heard Walt recommend that wannabe moms read the book "Every Woman's Book" by Paavo Airola. Let us know the date the baby is due!

Best wishes,
Jan

if you aren't already anti-vaccine, go to www.909shot.com and start learning. My husband is heavily into exercise and all our kids are boys.
I'd recommend avoiding stress, avoid stressful people, newsreports, and negative movies-stick to musicals and comedies.

Btw, walt, I forgot to mention that I would prefer not to follow that book by Airola - the vegan book. I read about your recommendation there in the archives, and I dont think that will work for me.

I feel vegan diet for a pregnancy is not nourishing/strengthening enough. Plus finding my own observations on how my health has reacted positvely since incorporating meat back into my diet, since being a vegan several years ago.

But any other advice is very welcome! ;-)

TIA

Maria.

Hi again Walt,

I just remembered something tonight at work.

Yesterday, I took some SF722 capsules along with my other regular vitamins.

BUT, I remember my naturopath saying that when one wants to conceive not to take this as it can cause spontaneous abortion. So how long would that ONE dosage of SF722 hang around my system for, before its safe to conceive. Should I wait a day or 2, would that be enough before conception, to get that SF722 out of my system. I only took it yesterday the once, not on a regular pattern or anything.

I also took some Astragalus with Siberian Ginseng herbal formula yesterday. Same applies there. How long would that take to be out of my system totally?

TIA

Mama Maria

Hi, Maria!

I'm the mother of two boys and a girl. I also ran a group daycare for 15yrs. I think timing has more to do with deciding whether you'll have a boy or a girl. The closer to ovulation, the more likely the child will be male. Male sperm are faster than female, but weaker. Female are slower but live longer. I followed the book 'How to Decide the Sex of Your Baby,' as did my cousin, a friend of hers and a friend of mine. We all got what we were trying for. A healthy, happy mom is more likely to have a healthy, happy baby.

Go to www.WestonAPrice.org, they have a whole section on how to have a healthy baby. Basically, eat a diet like our healthy ancestors ate, rich in omega 3's, butter, protein, etc. TAke 1 teaspoon of cod liver oil daily, get the kind that has been tested for mercury and pcbs, etc., eat Alaskan salmon, sardines, beef, chicken, butter, olive oil, nuts, green veggies, make sure you get some sun daily, just read that site, it will explain all, good luck, juli

Hi Mama,

One recent bit of news tells about the need to make sure that you are getting sufficient Omega 3 fatty acids.

This nutrient, when missing, has been linked to neural tube defects such as spina bifida.

A tablespoonfull of freshly ground flaxseed once a day is
plenty. Deepwater fish is another way of getting the nutrient, but there is some risk of mercury injestion.

Hi,

Sorry about that bit of misinformation..
I should have said Folic Acid NOT Omega 3 fatty acids
However, they are both fine.

Eat your veggies, like you mother told you to do.. :)

I agree with you Maria, a vegan diet would not be good for a developing fetus, that fetus needs plenty of vitamin A and D, which must come from animal source, also, needs saturated fat like butter and cream and cheese, and lots of omega 3. You wont have an ADHD kid if you take 1 teaspoon of cod liver oil daily starting now, wish I knew that 10 years ago, I ate mostly vegan and low fat, and I believe my son was affected by that awful outdated diet, good luck, juli

Hi, Mama.

It seems that you are already doing a lot more than most people do to prepare for a healthy pregnancy and fetus.

Start at least walking an hour a day as ANY exercies will magnify the benefits of what you are already doing AND greatly help with labor. Be absolutely certain you are taking at least omega 3's (at least 2000 milligrams twice a day) and B complex (100 balanced B at least once a day) for prevention of neural cord problems and to help the development of baby's brain, starting at least a few months BEFORE you conceive. If it were me, I would also be taking 3 Perfect Food supplements twice a day as well to hedge my bets for future discoveries.

Remember that a fetus is about 50% from the mother and 50% from the father. The healthier the father the better the quality of the blastocyst. Preparations best started about 2 years prior to conception.

Because of common mood changes with pregnancy, I would rethink my only doing SR "IRRegularly".

Remember how (and why) to stop nausea of early pregnancy.

Let us know how you do.

Walt

Hi again Walt

I just took my first dose of folic acid tonight. one tablet per day of 5mg. Alhtough it did say that it expires july of 2004, I thought there would be still be enough benefit left in taking it.

I do take a women's swisse multi vitamin (B complex) with herbs and iron, bioflavanoids, garlic oil caps (3 per day), flaxseed oil (2 tablespoons)in my smoothie, and just started back into taking Evening primrose oil (2 per day) Is that enough EFA's INYHO for optimum health for pregnancy?

I am interested in taking the Perfect Food one that you mentioned.
Do you know a good, reputable company I can order it from, as I will be ordering it from Australia?

Ideally, I would have liked to have waited a few months before getting pregnant (and maybe it will take that long, who knows) but I am VERY ready to get started ASAP. I am 34 now after all. ;-)

TIA for your help in this. Its ULTRA important to me, you know!

So glad to see you are safe from the extreme weather patterns you guys have been experiencing.

Keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

P.S. Going to start on that walking/exercise plan ASAP. I'll do anything to help ease the labour! ;-)

P.P.S. How would walking help much with the labour/childbirth? By strengthening pelvic muscles?

TIA

MARIA

Hi Mama,

Flaxseed oil may be more convenient than grinding seeds
daily, but it can spoil if not kept refrigerated.
If you want it pure, and dependable, grind it yourself
as needed.

I have not heard of any problems with flaxseed. The nutrients in it are needed in most diets.

Just like anything, moderation is the key.
Even water can be overdone.

Thanks, Maria.

The minimal effective dose of folic acid (for prevention of neural tube deformity) is 400 milligrams a day. In my opinion, since all the B vitamins work together for everything else, I would get my folic acid from a B complex.

See the supplments archives for where to get the Perfect Food. On the internet the address is gardenoflife.com

Once you have gone through labor I think you will say that nearly every muscle in your body is involved. There is plenty of research extant that mild daily exercise helps with labor and delivery as well as recovery afterwards.

Ivan has a bullseye painted on my house.

No one yet knows the optimum dose of EFAs but what you are describing would be a big help.

Walt
